Re-ordered info[edit]

I've jus re-ordered the info in this article:

  • The most relevant info on James is that he was the leader of the Jerusalem Church; this info should come first, together with an explanation of his epiphets;
  • I've combined various (sub)sections on sources into one section, "Sources";
  • I've moved the information on the relation with Jesus, Mary and Joseph; and the identification with other James's downwards; this info is less important than his role in the Jerusalem Church.

And, frankly, I think that these sections, together with the section on his death, are way too long, compared to the info on his role in the Jerusalem Church. It's WP:QUOTEFARM, providing 'anecdotical' info, but no sustained analysis or background-info. Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 07:35, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is an article about an historical person, discussed by the historian Jospehus. I think this article is written far too much from a devotional, Christian POV with way too much explanation of how Church traditions try to wish away the fact that the sources say plainly that James was Jesus' brother. Most of that stuff does not belong in the article at all, WP is not a Sunday school lesson or a devotional handbook. The article needs to be re-written.Smeat75 (talk) 12:19, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Smeat75: I agree and I have actually been thinking about rewriting this article for a while now, but I have not had time yet. I would like to bring Mary Magdalene up to "Good Article" status before I get too involved here, though, and I have also just started rewriting the article Ninurta, but I do plan to eventually rewrite this and bring it up to "Good Article" status. --Katolophyromai (talk) 12:23, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

False citation by Papias[edit]

The citation by Papias belongs to Papias (lexicographer) and has nothing to do with Papias of Hierapolis. See Lightfoot, Joseph Barber Essays On The Work Entitled Supernatural Religion, 1889, page 211. (https://archive.org/details/essaysonworkenti00ligh)

There are several pages on Wikipedia that point to this false citation: Mary, mother of James, Mary of Clopas, James, son of Alphaeus, Alphaeus, James, brother of Jesus, James the Less, Brothers of Jesus, Clopas, Cleopas. Someone really has to correct this hoax.

Skewered terminology[edit]

Just under the heading “Older stepbrother, son of Joseph by an earlier marriage” it uses the word “apocryphal” which gives the document a personal meaning (to somebody) rather than be fair and equal.

it could be somebody’s opinion that the Bible is apocryphal but it’s unhelpful to the many billions of people who read wiki. Who just want facts not personal beliefs.

please consider this and rewrite this section to provide a fair meaning for everyone 220.253.30.246 (talk) 18:19, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Date that Ananus Ben Ananus was deposed[edit]

In the article Ananus ben Ananus it says he was deposed in 63 ce and died in 68 ce.

In the article about James the brother of Jesus it says he was either stoned in 62 ce or 69 ce by Ananus ben Ananus. The date of James' death could not have possibly been 69 ce, then, but 62 ce. Dusk55 (talk) 04:44, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
