For his role as Churchill, Oldman spent over 200 hours having make-up applied, and smoked over 400 cigars (worth about $20,000) during filming, which led to him acquiring nicotine poisoning.[1][2]" 2600:1700:CAF0:6D30:2D45:730B:A6F5:690B (talk) 02:40, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: References for these claims ought to originate from BAFTA, AAMPAS and SAG, since the claim statements originate from those organizations. The claim regarding nicotine poisoning, as it involves a health claim regarding a living person, ought to include additional secondary sources. Spintendo ᔦᔭ 11:09, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Top photograph[edit]

As to this Diff that swapped File:Gary Oldman by Gage Skidmore.jpg with File:Gary Oldman in 2017 (36334517524).jpg the newer photograph isn't preferable in my opinion.

The actor is looking away at an angle and half the side of his face is shadowed over. So you don't really get the look of the contour of his face. --Kiyoweap (talk) 17:23, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please add "| honorific_suffix = OBE" to top of infobox. Already referenced (cite 64). Thanks. 2A02:C7F:8E0C:6600:1C73:D0B8:A9BC:C2B5 (talk) 16:53, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This most recent edit[1] removed a Daily Mail reference as an unreliable source. I would agree that tabloids are generally unsuitable for BLPs, but in this case Oldman gave a direct interview with the publication and therefore the quote on how he prepared for the role of Smiley is fully supported. I am not asking for the entire edit to be reverted as the user made various constructive changes, but please restore both the "The way he touched his shirt..." quote and Daily Mail reference, which were present within the article for many years. Thanks. 2A02:C7F:8E0C:6600:15DB:F930:A485:31A6 (talk) 11:14, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds reasonable to me. Any objections, Nikkimaria? Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 06:34, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Per the discussion at WP:DAILYMAIL1, the publication has a history of fabricating quotes, and therefore direct interviews are not exempt from reliability concerns. Adding pretty much anything sourced to it in a BLP would be inappropriate. Nikkimaria (talk) 10:29, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Not done till we get a better source for this. --DBigXray 13:09, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow. I'm no fan of the Daily Fail, but I wasn't aware they'd outright admitted to making up quotes. Thanks for the response. I don't think a better source is likely as all any other source could do would be quote the DM. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 13:15, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oldman is not an OBE[edit]

Mr Gary Oldman, made an Officer for his "public service", in the county of Buckinghamshire? I don't know of Gary Oldman the actor having any ties to Buckinghamshire. Also, wouldn't he be described as an "actor/actress" being honoured for "services to drama", like others on the list?[2]

If the "real" Oldman had been made an OBE, we'd have heard about it in the news back in January 2010. Instead, the award quietly crawled into this article only last month. It's a shame, but perpetually under-the-radar Gary is likely to be overlooked during his lifetime. 5.69.99.119 (talk) 14:13, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly nothing to do with Oldman the actor. 192.175.43.29 (talk) 19:08, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mention of Hollywood Blacklisting?[edit]

The citation mentioning the suggestion that Oldman was blacklisted following some unspecified controversy after the release of _The Contender_ does not support such a claim. The line about blacklisting is contained in a fictional satirical epilogue to the main article. This should not be construed as fact or used as a citation, and I would suggest that passage be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.154.104.67 (talk) 20:23, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
