I found this in the American Heritage dictionary but am not sure how or whether it should be included.

Either of two large flightless birds (Raphus solitarius and Pezophaps solitaria) of the Mascarene Islands which together with the dodo make up the extinct family Raphidae. The solitaires were extinct by the end of the 18th century.

Anomaly[edit]

As earlier comments begin to say, there's also Rodrigues solitaire, which seems to be totally unrelated to the birds described in this article. But at the moment, neither article knows of the other's existence. And apparently the name has also been used to refer to the Réunion ibis. This means that "Solitaire (bird)" is an incomplete disambiguation, and the title ought to redirect to Solitaire (disambiguation), and this ought to be renamed to something that distinguishes it from the others.
