"Two plus three is, basically, five."

I don't like the sentence above. The word "basically" is useless and makes it sound as if the person who put it there is trying to impress me without having any material to impress me with. That is why I deleted the word "basically" from this article. I will admit that there are some occasions when "basically" is appropriate, but it is too often used in that way, and I recomment calibrating one's mental alarm bells to sound when this word is seen. -- Mike Hardy
