January 31, 2006 revision[edit]

This is a beginning; I'll work on the Indulgences section tomorrow, and then go back and insert citations, references, and links

I'm pretty sure the modern penitentiary only deals with offenses in the internal forum (see Pastor bonus art. 117–119 of John Paul II). A confessor who breaks the seal of confession publicly would be a matter of the external forum and would be dealt with by the local bishop, with appeals to the Rota or Signatura depending on the form of the process. No where does this article talk about what the penitentiary primarily deals with: the absolution of internal forum latæ sententiæ excommunications reserved to the Holy See and the dispensation of internal forum impediments to sacraments reserved to the Holy See. This should be added. Pmadrid 22:02, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Secret Archives of the Apostolic Penitentiary[edit]

According to the Secret Vatican Archives wikipage ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Vatican_Archives ), the Apostolic Penitentiary has highly secret archives of papal documents. It would be great if someone could add any info they know about this to this article.

Question?[edit]

I've got a source saying that one Thomas de Rossy, future Bishop of Galloway, was a "papal penitentiary in the English and Irish languages". What exactly does this mean in the late 14th century? Did the papacy keep speakers of different languages for some specific purpose? Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 22:22, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Filippo Boncompagni[edit]

In the list of Major Penitentiaries there is a redirected link from Filippo Boncompagni (1579-1586) to Pope Gregory XIII. This seems to be mistaken, as Filippo Cardinal Boncompagni is a nephew of Pope Gregory XIII. (See: Catholic Encylopedia (Filippo Boncompagni)) Theobald Tiger (talk) 11:41, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
