Peter Forsberg[edit]

Who wrote this article? A Red Wings Fan? Foppa from what I understand is a nickname for Forsberg much like Smitty for Smith. I've followed his career for nine years and never once heard him called Floppa. Further he's definately not noted for diving. Please consult ESPN or NHL.com and completely re-write this. It's an insult to what most experts consider the best player in a generation.

If it's an insult to Forsberg that you're looking for, you should check out some of the April 20th edits, which are now gone. However, the fact remains that there are plenty of people who accuse him of diving. I don't happen to think he does, but the accusations do exist. To give a particularly offensive example, see this. If you haven't heard about this stuff, that's not because it doesn't exist. Anyway, the whole point of the "diving" section is the accusations, and no statement of fact is made.

If you think it needs to be completely re-written, be my guest, though. Then maybe the trolls can attack your prose. TOO 23:50, 5 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Are we failing to forget Forsberg has been consistantly injured throughout his whole career. Most experts dont know what the bleep they are talking about. Please let me know as to what you speak of,when you say 'generation' because if it has anything do with the last 10 years you should get headbutted by Donald Brasheer. Please reconsider your expert testimonies before posting riduclous comments. -UNSIGNED

He is, however, well known for his ability to "embelish" contact on the ice. While I don't feel it needs to be thrown into the article, I'd like to point out that a majority of fans outside of Denver and Philly would support this viewpoint. --155.45.81.25 18:14, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Denver fan since the franchise came here. It's a fact. He's one of the most creatively gifted performance artists in hockey. Straddling lumber for a 180 strip that also sends the opponent to the sin bin for tripping if the ref sees it is 100% pure, unfiltered talent. He instinctively and violently reverse-headbutts any stick he sees that is more than four feet off the ice and if it's only three feet up he tucks it under his armpit to hook himself while tussling with it in his jersey but insuring he doesn't let it go until he's imposed all the way to the ice or ticked the defenseman off... Truthfully he's brilliant! 64.78.147.5 (talk) 18:35, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ridiculous. So if I start saying that Wayne Gretzky was always trying to grab his co-players's from behind, and some bloggers follow up and say the same thing, that should be incorporated in the Gretzky article? Forsberg is known for standing up, whatever happens, and taking care of his own battles. In his early career he often gave games away due to the fact that he started chasing somebody who had pissed him off instead of playing hockey. See the clips on Youtube. Forsberg is one of the strongest players to ever grace NHL ice. The diving thing seems to be gone now - good. Keep it that way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.180.56.60 (talk) 12:00, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nicknames?[edit]

Are the nicknames added by an anon legitimate? They look bizarre to me, but I haven't followed Forsberg's career. Advice from someone who knows would be appreciated. :) Jwrosenzweig 16:47, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)

As a hockey interested swede I can say that "Foppa" is a nickname for Peter used nationwide in Sweden including sports news media. Although I think he is a "puck wizard" I haven't heard of it as a nickname specific to Peter, maybe someone from Colorado could comment on this :) Torgil 13:05, 18 Mar 2004 (CET)

He is called "Foppa" - atleast in Sweden. There is no question about it. Here are some examples from Swedish state television: [1] and some major Swedish newspapers (DN and Expressen): [2], [3], [4], [5] [6], [7] - Kricke, 27 Feb 2005.

Yup, if you say Forsberg here in Sweden no one knows who ur talking about. Say Foppa and people goes ahhh.--84.217.1.133 2 July 2005 02:20 (UTC)

Yea, I can atest to Peter being called "Foppa" and "Peter the Great", those were his two nicknames when he played in Colorado. I'd have to go looking for sources to back it up, since I don't know any off the top of my head. User:Sidelko 11 July 2007

Denver & NHL broadcasters call him Forsberg or Peter the Great, and occasionally "Foppa" when they are trying to look cool. I've heard Foppa out of Quenneville and other players a few times as well. 64.78.147.5 (talk) 18:25, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Foppa" is definitely the most common nickname for Peter Forsberg. Also, Crocs are usually called "Foppatofflor", literally "Foppa slippers", in Sweden. Fiskbil (talk) 02:29, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Or "Floppisar". —Krm500 (Communicate!) 03:22, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just curious. Can someone out there in the Swedish-speaking world explain what, exactly, the nickname "Foppa" actually means, if anything? How did this become a nickname for Forsberg? beerslayer (talk) 22:49, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Walls[edit]

Vincenzo Foppa[edit]

I came here looking for the painter Vincenzo Foppa Can I write a redirect? Frury

I turned the redirect page Foppa into a disambiguation and removed the top sentence. Briememory 18:09, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One Point Per Game[edit]

This statement is untrue: "One of Forsberg most incredible accolades is that he is the only player in the NHL that has scored at least a point per game every season of his career"

Mike Bossy also scored at least a point per game as can be seen his stats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Bossy

It's also a bit misleading since Forsberg's career hasn't been nearly as long as Wayne's or Mario's and both of those kept up their averages until their last seasons of play.

I'd edit the page but some fanboy will just come along and revert it.

The stamp[edit]

It's stated in the article that Forsberg is the only hockeyplayer being printed on a swedish post stamp. That is incorrect. Fellow Swedish player Mats Sundin, team captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs and earlier team captian of the Swedish National Team was printed on a Swedish post stamp after the gold medal in the 1998 World Championships, though it was not released until 2002.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find an english-speaking source to confirm this but there are numerous swedish newspapers that can and this [8] is to a pressrelease from the Swedish Postal Service that confirms it. The text is now changed, stating that Peter Forsberg is the first of two Swedish players to have been printed on a Swedish stamp. Sleinad 22:57, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The source does not have to be in english. --Krm500 23:16, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have solved the stamp issue. Lucky enough, the Swedish Postal Service Museum (Postmusem) has an on-line database where you can search for almost every stamp they have issued. Managed to find the Sundin stamp and added it as a reference.http://www.postmuseum.posten.se/frimbas/frimarks/F2002008.asp As far as Corey Hirsch not wanting to be on the stamp...well a Swedish source was the "best" I could come up with. Kaiketsu 20:40, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What? Hirsch IS on the stamp. I have never heard that someone can refuse being on a stamp? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.180.56.60 (talk) 14:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Unrestricted Free Agent[edit]

Forsberg is a UFA, therefore he's currently not a Predator. The Preds official website, doesn't list him. GoodDay 21:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If Forsberg is still a Predator, when will he stop being? If in December he hasn't signed to a team, is he still a Predator? He is an unrestricted free agent and the Predators have taken him out of their roster. If he was a Restricted Free Agent, that would be another case, but he is not...--Serte Talk · Contrib ] 22:07, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can somebody link the sentence about Forsberg borrowing the move from Kent Nilsson to this? Thank you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QobAlzxDdXc —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.180.56.60 (talk) 11:54, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Crosby?![edit]

Slightly ahead of Crosby, at 4th place in all time assists? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.43.174.47 (talk) 22:14, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
