I've thought about doing that but two characters may warrant their own articles. Hello Kitty definitely for obvious reasons and My Melody has her own anime and several games based around her and her individual article has the potential to grow. "Darky" doll[edit]

I've found several mentions around the web that in the 1990s Sanrio discontinued production of a "darky" doll in the tradition of golliwogs, because Americans found it racist. However, I haven't been able to find anything that rises to the level Wikipedia would usually consider citable. This is currently mentioned (but lacking adequate citation) in our Blackface article. About the name[edit]

The bogus Spanish "explanation" of the name as "Holy River" has a link to Sanrio Europe which is now giving "Page not found", and I cannot find any trace of this story on Sanrio Europe, nor on the Japanese site. This ought to be preserved somehow, though I think it would help to make it clearer how obviously it is fake -- for example with the real Spanish for "holy river" (surely something like "Rio Santo"??) I just added the Sanrio Logo Design History section to this Talk page and in one of the links I posted (official Japanese site), it gives the explanation of the current and original company name. This page is in Japanese but you can translate it to English in Chrome. https://www.sanrio.co.jp/special/sanrio-himitsu/mame/logo.html . I just Googled (checked Google Translate) and it looks like "santo" means "holy" and "río" means "river" in Spanish, so I guess they combined half of the first word with the second word to make it "Sanrio." The company was originally called "YSC" for "Yamanashi Silk Center" 108.54.107.200 (talk) 22:48, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just for the record: Sanrio's claimed story is a total bare-faced lie. It is not believable by anyone with an understanding of Japanese over the age of 5. They were called "Yamanashi Silk Center"; Yamanashi (山梨) has the on reading sanri. They took this, then made up a story about something that makes no sense in a language they do not understand. Sanrio Logo Design History[edit]

Hi, I don't know how to do this so someone should add this image of all the Sanrio logos https://78.media.tumblr.com/d58661389b267ffba1a053262c87507b/tumblr_inline_mz6760U7UW1qg238w.jpg , taken from http://ferricide.tumblr.com/post/72844789196/little-houses . Here's an official link about it, written in Japanese but you can translate it to English in Chrome: https://www.sanrio.co.jp/special/sanrio-himitsu/mame/logo.html . The one before the current one with the heart is the nicest one (in my opinion) and I found a post by Sanrio on both Twitter and Instagram about it. The Twitter photo is https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C7DSD9rV0AAtgAV.jpg (taken from https://twitter.com/sanrio/status/842404098653708288 ) and Instagram one is https://www.instagram.com/p/BRtCUApjgRp/ I can't seem to be able to get a direct link to the Instagram image but the one on Twitter seems to be a larger, higher quality version of it anyway. In a comment on the Instagram post Sanrio comments "This photo was taken at the #SanrioHQ in Japan @tiny_poem9!" if you want to add that description as a caption for this image (that it was taken at Sanrio Headquarters (on what looks like a wooden door or maybe wall to me)). It's very hard to find these images online for some reason and the only official ones I found were on the sanrio.co.jp site and Sanrio's official Twitter and Instagram pages. There are a few other images of these heart logos online, such as screenshots/stills from Sanrio videos where they were also used, and the video clips themselves, such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcDiFpuiVwY . I'm trying to find out which letter font is used with the heart logo (that spells "SANRIO" and "A SANRIO FILM") and have no idea how to do that since there's such little info about these logos online, so if anyone can figure that out, please add that info as well. Sega as Parent company?[edit]

I noticed an edit made earlier this month claiming Sega is the parent company of Sanrio since 2023, but can't find any information on that.

The closest I could find is the Sega Sammy Holdings page noting that Sega Sammy held around 10% of the company as of 2015—nowhere near a controlling share. In the cited MarketScreener source, Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. isn't even listed as a shareholder anymore. Flurrikat (talk) 20:09, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
