Merge with Marxian economics =[edit]

User:Jni has put merge templates on this page and Marxian economics. It's not clear from his tags which way round he sees the merge occuring; in any case there's a question over what the best name for the article would be:

  1. Against Marxian economics: I find 'Marxian' to be a rather tiresome adjective, with its usual more-Marxist-than-thou connotations (Vulgar? Quoi moi?), and its certainly much less used than Marxist. I said a bit on Talk:Marxian economics in one of my first ever Wikipedia edits;
  2. Against Marxist school of economics: is there any doubt that Marxist economics is a school? This phrase seems redundant to me, and is also less used than Marxist economics.

I propose rename the better article of the two to Marxist economics, and merge the weaker article into it. I suppose Marxian economics is the stronger page, but I don't think there is much in it.

While I'm on the topic, I think the economics pages could do with a Schools of economics page and category, which would do quite a bit to tidy up Category:Economic_theories, and could be modelled on the HET page. ---- Charles Stewart 19:25, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The use of he/she his/her is gratuitous, although not surprising that it would be found in this article. Not sure what the Wiki policy on pronouns is, but it seems like we could use half as many here. Paul 01:26, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Merge and rename[edit]

Note: This article is listed on the Community portal List of things to do - Merge.

It seems to me that "marxian economics" would imply Marx's economic thought. This article is broader than that, as it includes other Marxist thinkers. "Marxist school of economics" on the other hand, doesn't seem accurate. A school surely implies a defined group of thinkers (e.g., Frankfurt School). So I agree with Charles that using the term "Marxist" would be best. Therefore, I think that this article should be merged with the Marxist school article and renamed Marxist economics.
