Single lunar map?[edit]

It's just my opinion, but I think this could be made much better by using a single map, divided into sections, placed in a borderless table, and with the most significant features marked. Or even a drill-down map on multiple pages. — RJH 23:53, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Aye, this does seem a bit odd - and the maps are too small to be useful and the dots obscure the craters being highlighted.

Kdconod, hi! I think the dots are fabulous. (Anyone doing a project where they have to locate many of these just might agree.) The many WP articles on individual lunar craters don't give a simple visual indication of where on the moon the crater lies. This Locations section is very helpful. If anything, each of these dot maps could be added to the many individual crater articles that lack them. Bob Enyart, Denver KGOV radio host (talk) 22:45, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And Kepler ?[edit]

In "Locations of major craters", Kepler is not mentioned and has no image. What a pity ! --Salsero35 (talk) 22:37, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's not just a pity. The Picard crater is the smallest in this section at 23km diameter and 2.4km deep. Whereas at 32km diameter and 2.6km deep, Kepler is far larger. I think Picard should be swapped out, for Kepler. Might another editor consider making that change? Bob Enyart, Denver KGOV radio host (talk) 22:42, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Merger Proposal[edit]

I am proposing to merge Thalassoid into this article, as it is an uncommon term which does not merit a full article. However, it has been suggested it would be best merged into this article instead of simply being deleted, as it has interesting history and relevance. Crater origin[edit]

Schroeter (1791) first used the word crater in the lunar context (Whitaker, Mapping and Naming the Moon, 1999, p. 106). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.94.98.41 (talk) 22:43, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
