Ruffian[edit]

Ruffian was one of the great ones, a spectacular filly and a tragic story.

It's kind of surprising that she didn't have an entry here until I made it just now. Hopefully this article will grow. --Bryan

Cleanup[edit]

I have cleaned up the talk page for this article. Personal comments such as "I (heart) Ruffian" have been removed, as the purpose of this page is to talk about how to improve the article, not to praise/critique the subject of the article. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Talk#Placing_material_from_the_article_on_a_talk_page for more details.

Citations[edit]

This article is in need of some work. It lacks some citations. I suppose I will add a banner to the article page. If any of you have relevant information on Ruffian, would you mind adding it? Thanks so much! talk 22:23, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added the banner to the page. thehappyanole 23:29, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Since the entire article seems well-sourced, I've removed the tag. Although the lead can sure use some expansion, leads usually don't require citations.Wi2g 04:08, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a citations needed tag to the Legacy section. Please don't remove that tag without making improvements. Tigerboy1966  10:14, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Blood-Horse List[edit]

The list was a ranking of American horses in an American magazine. It was not a global ranking and should not be presented in such a way. Tigerboy1966  10:19, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

File:Ruffian at Astoria.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Ruffian at Astoria.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Editorializing[edit]

The second and third sentences of the introductory paragraph are bald-faced opinion. Since the matter is discussed later in the section "Legacy," both sentences should be removed from the lead paragraph.Princetoniac (talk) 20:55, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree the tone is all wrong. The second sentence can be supported by later details and refs, so I'll leave it. The third needs to go, as it's claiming a subjective view as an objective fact. I'll remove it. I have had issues with this article before. There has been a history of well-meaning, but unencyclopedic contributions.  Tigerboy1966  06:42, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Colour[edit]

I changed "jet-black" to "officially black". This image [1] showing brown on the muzzle makes it pretty clear that she was actually a dark bay or brown horse. Tigerboy1966  06:20, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

POV/unferecenced[edit]

So much unreferenced pov material here. The article has been up here for a long time in a pretty sorry state. I am going to strip it down to a stub and do it over again properly unless anyone objects.  Tigerboy1966  19:46, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I moved text from infobox to Two-Year-old section that had this with it: [Reference: Turf & Sport Digest January 1975. Front Cover and full article page 24,25,26.] If someone could help,I have no idea how to fix or even tag this.Stretchrunner (talk) 16:16, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
