History[edit]

Great job on the history section, 4.13.47.141. I added some small stuff, but it's really good already. The stuff about the buildings was unclear to me. I tried to separate out the city hall/Granite Building from the library and the city charter, but I'm not sure I got it right. -Willmcw 23:34, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Order[edit]

I moved the Upton Sinclair House notation into the history section. It didn't seem to belong at the top of the page. If someone knows the dates he lived at the house it would be nice to include those and place the item correctly in the timeline. Jjinfoothills 20:56, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Filming in Monrovia...[edit]

OK, who's the person who rewrote the section on filming in Monrovia?

And why was a "citation needed" for this fact?

It doesn't matter now, since this morning, there was a film crew doing a scene for the new ABC series "October Road" in front of historic Boxx Jewelers...please reinstate this original story of how the Old Town Merchants Association has all but banned filming in downtown Monrovia...thanks,Michaela92399 02:53, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt that the original story will ever be restored, Michaela...because there are a few Wikipedians in Monrovia who are determined to control what we(the public) say about Old Town:only nice, "sugar-coated" pablum regarding the changes(mostly upscale) to Myrtle Avenue...sigh...Baldwin91006 16:59, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to know who in Monrovia gets all the moolah from all these filmings. It happens so often, that its hard to believe the downtown businesses don't benefit at least something from all the tapings that interupt our lives. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oh mighty isis (talkcontribs) 04:29, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Statues[edit]

I actually live in Monrovia and wanted to know if it would be considered important enough to add this:

Numerous bear statues can be found around the town of Monrovia. These statues are pretty big, and they all share roughly the same base model. Each one is customized in a different way, for example, if you walk down the east side of Myrtle avenue, you can find one dressed as a painter. The one you can find in the Children's Wing of the Monrovia Public Library has a myriad of different animals painted on it. There's around four or five statues that I know of, but I'm sure you could find more if you went looking.

The statues came to be after a brown bear was sighted in the area on multiple occasions and gained the sentiment of the locals (I believe the name given to it was Samson, but I may be wrong about that). He's sort of been a town mascot since then, everyone's quite fond of him.

This information could be of use to this article, as visiting the bear statues is a very popular activity among visitors. Cat-with-the-'tism (talk) 21:45, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible to add it to the Arts and culture section if they have received significant coverage in reliable sources. Wikipedia is not a place for original content so you can not add your personal observations. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 22:07, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
the towns official website wrote about him, would that be significant enough to get it included? Cat-with-the-'tism (talk) 16:42, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The city reference is not sufficient. There is plenty of newspaper coverage though. Follow MOS: and add a concise entry. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 22:47, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Krikorian[edit]

The Krikorian was bought by LOOK Dine-In Cinemas a few years ago and has been substantially re-branded. I don't personally know anything about what happened for this change to occur, I assume it was a business deal made during the pandemic (I would be interested in further research about the change, though). Should the picture of the Krikorian be replaced with an updated version or should the photo caption be edited to reflect this change in management? Cat-with-the-'tism (talk) 20:05, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Added the date, as that was the name at the time, the name should not be updated. Fettlemap (talk) 21:57, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
