Why I Write[edit]

Delete or transwiki. This is just a lengthy essay by George Orwell. Definitely non-encyclopedic. Pyrrhos 17:46, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Just an essay? Just an essay? Excuse me, but it's a classic. Right up there with "Shooting an Elephant" and "Politics and the English Language." Non-encyclopedic fer shur, copyvio almost certainly, but not "just" an essay. Dpbsmith (talk) 02:10, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)
• Is this still under copyright? If not, transwiki to wikisource. In either case, delete. Gwalla | Talk 19:44, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
• Delete From a quick web search, it looks as if it was published in 1947 and, as such, is very unlikely to be public domain. -- BobDoe 22:17, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
• Delete Orwell died in 1950, so he's PD in the "plus-50" countries, but not in the "plus-70" countries. Jpgordon 23:44, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
• I'm 99% sure you're right. Most of Orwell's work is available from Project Gutenberg of Australia, but not Project Gutenberg itself. Dpbsmith (talk) 02:10, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)
• Delete. Wikisource when available, but it's not yet. Pity. Andrewa 01:01, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)
• Delete, unless someone can show that it is actually public domain worldwide. It doesn't fit the copyvio template, which is for websites... but it should be listed as a copyright issue. Does someone know the right way to do this? Dpbsmith (talk) 02:10, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC) P.S. I decided to go ahead and list it as a copyvio, citing one Web source (Project Gutenberg of Australia). Dpbsmith (talk) 12:19, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)
