"on his return to Wangi" comes before any other mention of this suburb,of which the full name (given later) is Wangi Wangi. I presume there was an intention to say that he settled there at some date. Can someone provide this info? Spathaky (talk) 10:05, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I visited the Newcastle gallery regularly, and saw several good Dobell paintings there on regualr display. They are striking in their style. The amateur biographer [1] invites people to use the work - but not copy verbatim. I did not. Peter Ellis 17:53, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

LGBT?[edit]

There is one sentence in the article that says he was a homosexual, not backed up by any references. Unless a reliable source is added to that statement, it should be deleted. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:12, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I commend your efforts to ensure articles robustly reference sources when discussing LGBT issues. However I would rather that you took more of a stance that erred towards the 'benefit of the doubt' in many cases - looking yourself to improve articles to help people who wish to use wikipedia to research LGBT issues rather than deleting anything that's not 100%. You must be well aware that someone's sexuality is a difficult thing to 'prove' either way; and frequently it's appropriate to take a more nuanced approach. Otherwise we'll quickly find that LGBT issues disappear completely from articles. That aside, I agree where there are reliable sources to support a textual insertion then they should be used to back it up. Contaldo80 (talk) 15:06, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you are saying, but I have a bot that weekly provides a list of articles where an LGBT cat has been added, and roughly half of the 100+ every week are vandalism edits. Take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies/Cat Search 4 New Pages. Furthermore (not in this case), WP:BLP requires a verifiable source for an LGBT category. I will try not to step on your toes. :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 04:29, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
