I posted this before but it seems to have been deleted for a reason unknown to me...

Could someone familiar with Swedish add pronunciation information to this page? -sam Walker 2005/2/3

The name is pronounced (roughly) oomay-au, with stress on the first syllable. The å is pronounced like the <a> in hall or the <oa> in board. Somebody else can possibly give you this in IPA. / up land 06:39, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Though people from Umea generally don't pronounce the last letter (especially not when followed by university, the å melts into the u and vanishes). With my limited understanding of IPO, I'd transcribe the local pronunciation as [ʉɱæ]. But I'm not certain enough of it to put it in the article. Eudoxie (talk) 18:18, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
