Making of[edit]

The Making of special includes a loose adaptation of the beginning of So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish, explained as a virtual reality simulation that the actors have been in for 12 years. This could be considered an optional ending for the TV series, although tongue-in-cheek.

This represents one good evening's work writing and revising. I've got as far as TV episode two, I need to add cast lists for three-six (unless someone else would like to do it?). --JohnDBuell 02:52, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

DVD Ratings[edit]

I was quite astonished to see the BBC Region 2 release of this was given a 15 rating by the BBFC (and only a PG in Ireland). I haven't watched the DVD myself, but could anyone enlighten me as to why it has such a high rating? --Zilog Jones 03:42, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Actually it says so right on the package :) "Overall category raised to [15] due to additional material being classified at a higher certificate than the main feature [PG]." There's a bit of cursing in the behind the scenes material on Disc 2, which wasn't otherwise censored. What'd I'd like to know is, how did the BBFC classify the original VHS release of "The Making of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?" Oddly enough the DVD garners a [G] rating in Australia (equivalent to UK [U]) because the Australian VHS had already been classified as [G]. The Making Of was an [M] on video but the Australian classifiers seemed not to have noticed this ([M] = UK [15]). In what is an interesting education of how poorly these ratings are transferred, Prime Video has each individual episode for sale rated at [15]. Looking for help writing an article about the spin-offs and crossovers of this series[edit]

I am writing an article about all of the series which are in the same shared reality as this one through spin-offs and crossovers. I could use a little help expanding the article since it is currently extremely dense and a bit jumbled with some sentence structures being extremely repetitive. I would like to be able to put this article into article space soon. Any and all help in writing the article would be appreciated, even a comment or two on the talk page would help. Another documentary[edit]

There is yet another documentary more or less related to the Hitchhiker's TV series. It's the Douglas Adams episode of The South Bank Show made in 1992, just like the original documentary. Apart from being interviews with Douglas Adams himself on his life and snippets from the TV series, it also has sideline scenes with Simon Jones and David Dixon as Arthur and Ford, partly enacting scenes from Life, the Universe and Everything, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, and Mostly Harmless (with the same narrator as from the original series), partly, as sort of a meta-fiction breaking the fourth wall, it has Ford explain to Arthur that they're just characters in a series of books written by this one "Douglas Adams" guy and telling him about the author's life and others of his works, such as Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. Additional Douglas Adams cameo[edit]

I don't remember which episode this appeared in. Adams portrays the man making a withdrawal from the bank and heading into the taxi. (For all I know, this is part of the naked man heading into the ocean scene, after the narrator was commenting on how peculiar it was that the ape-descendants thought piles of bits of paper lead to happiness.
