There seems to be both this article and map projection. Since both seem to be talking about essentially the same things, it might be worthwhile to merge them and redirect the other. If so, someone with a better background in mathematics or cartography would be better suited to the task than myself. -- IHCOYC

Projection in databases[edit]

I'm missing the definition of projection in database systems. Can anyone please set the link and write the article? --MauriceKA 09:33, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Geographic use of orthographic projection[edit]

. Many place names in WikiPedia use an orthographic projection image of the earth to more usefully illustrate the position on the surface of the earth. The advantage is that of the orthographic projection is that is gives more 'practical' position & directional information to near-by (same hemisphere) features (coasts, islands, continents, etc.) which are directly usable for aircraft flights, radio propagation, etc.
. It would be useful to indicate how new projections can be generated when someone puts in a new place name.
. Note that there are many types of (ie: there is no 'true') orthographic projection.
. See also, and.

Projection (physics)Projection <= This isn't part of my move proposal (hence redacted).--Dragoniez (talk) 11:08, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose There does not appear to be a clear primary topic here, and the proposed move is just for a redirect and not an actual article. If you are suggesting a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT then only the disambiguation page needs to be moved.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 10:38, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose rather strongly. There is a vast ream of topics under this name, many of which have lots of long-term significance and are not in any way subsumed by Reflection (physics). The fact that the Projection (physics) redirect was only created and added to the dab page a few days ago very strongly suggests to me that it is not the topic that most readers are looking for when they search for "projection". • Oppose rather strongly. The display of images by a projector is equally or more possible. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:33, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. No primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:43, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: Could refer to what a movie projector does or map projection or various other topics. No clear primary topic. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:31, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
