The band name is "The Communards" as shown on the album cover RED and on my 12" Never Can Say Goodbye... and on Jimmy Somerville's website.

I am a newbie and i do not want to mess this page as it is a big change to do.

name of band[edit]

lets add why they're called the communards? named most likely after the name for the Paris commune in 1871 who called themselves "les communards" a socialist uprising in france. 16:04, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

I have edited this section, including the incorrect claim that Marx used the term "communist" to honour the Commune (he wrote the Communist Manifesto more than 20 years before the uprising). I have also rearranged some of the information and statements into what seems to be a more logical order to me as it was previously disjointed and confusing. rogue_lettuce (talk) 12:43, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Commune[edit]

The sentence: "The name Communards comes from the French term for people from a commune." is wrong for 2 reasons. The word commune in France simply refers to a municipality, not a commune in the English sense (hence wrong redirection). People who live in a commune are not called communards. The name exclusively refers to the Paris Commune (named after citizens of the commune of Paris, who took up arms). FBlanc
