This whole page is pretty misleading since the term Grand Mufti is not equivalent to the head Mufti of a Muslim country. Sheikh Abubacker is not Grand Mufti Of India[edit]

I too am shocked to see him as a Grand Mufti. In India and Pakistan, this term is a mere honorary. We have state wise Muftis rather. Like the Grand Mufti of Gujarat is Mufti Ahmad Khanpuri. But, to prove that Mufti Abu Bakr is not Grand Mufti of India, we need to prove that the people who appointed him are having no authority at whole, but merely an organization of few barelwis. I just went through few links where Grand Mufti title is used before his name. But in the same time, it is related that the event was organized under the banner of the predominant Sunni organization in the country, All India Thanzeem Ulamae Islam. This organization completely belongs to Barelwi sect and that no one, prominent scholar from Deobandis or other Muslims living in India, joined the event. His being the Grand Mufti is same as that of Izaz Ali Amrohi, Muhammad Shafi Deobandi or Mahmood Hasan Gangohi. Wikipedia brethren must understand this.

With a consensus of 67 Barelwi ulema and muftis (clerics and jurists), It mentions for Musliyar that Just a month ago, South Indian Barelwi cleric and Sunni leader, Shaikh Abu Bakr Musliyar (Kanthapuram AP Abooabcker) was appointed as the Grand Mufti of India at the Ghareeb Nawaz Peace Conference held at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi. This appointment took place in an anti-terror Islamic conference organized under the banner of the leading Barelwi organizations in the country including All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam, just a barelwi organization.

Muneeb-ur-Rehman[edit]

There is no official position of Grand Mufti in Pakistan and neither do neutral sources add Grand Mufti before his name. Grand Mufti title is a mere honorary one used by followers of the subject. Requesting that his name be removed from the list.

@Authordom: IF you have a specific WP:V source that defines Muneeb as "Grant Mufti" of Pakistan I am happy for support for that re-instatement. I am somewhat concerned the previous source for Muneeb did not attribute him directly as "The " Mufti for the state as opposed to a "Mufti" of the state. The key start point in this would I believe the definition of who is eligible for the list: essentially defined by "The Grand Mufti (also called Chief Mufti, State Mufti and Supreme Mufti) is the head of regional muftis, Islamic jurisconsults, of a state.". The issue I see from my translation of the Ahmed Ould Murabit Mauritania entry was there was only reference to "Mufti" and not as "Grand Mufti" but my translation would be imperfect. I am of the opinion, given a neutral fictional state of Sodor, References to "Grand Mufti Fred of Sodor" or "The Mufti of Sodor" (implying one) would make for an eligible entry whereas "Mufti Fred of Sodor" would not as there could be more that one. The definition also seems to allow for a particular position in state that would imply the office holder is equivalent to "Grand Mufti" or "Chief Mufti" but tha is a little more tricky and sooner or later something will be borderline. Yes, Longer term unsourced entries will likely be removed from the list; but I'd hate to see that if there is an unreliable definition. Option might be to include some Islamic states where no "Grand Mufti" can be described. To get back to your question to me I observer some of the entries for lines where you claim More citation needed" seem to attribute the relevant person to be "Grand Mufti" so I am curious as to the reasoning. @Authordom you may be right there, and you may be wrong, though I think at first look your definition may be closer to the those of the current article sources than how it is currently put in the article. But I need to look at this several times. What I am thinking is really important is that having a precise definition of Grand Mufti agreed by consensus is essential for determining what should be in the list. As far as I can make out there are two claims for Grand Mufti of India, probably as explained by [1], which is why a ding-dong is occuring over who the Grand Mufti of India is. Rather than having a running edit war can the completing claims be placed here in a way people with no knowledge of the background of the claims can understand. The study is entitled DEVELOPMENT OFILM al'FIQH IN KASHMIR and can be easily searched through google. I do not think that the status of Grand Mufti of Kashmir is having any problem, as regarding to consensus. No one else, Deobandi or Barelwi is known with this title. Sorry - I personally am not going to implement this as the (White, 2021) article does not make it 100% clear to me Khan is the sole mufti on the SA MJC ... ie the Grand Mufti. United States Page Vandalism?[edit]
