Untitled[edit]

Walter Murch was also a very intelligent film theorist and also co-wrote THX with George Lucas while studying at USC.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.126.251.94 (talkcontribs) 07:48, January 16, 2005 (UTC)

How do you pronounce his name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.251.60.190 (talkcontribs) 05:40, March 21, 2006 (UTC)

  • Murch is like pronounced like church or birch. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blmurch (talkcontribs) 11:49, January 5, 2007 (UTC)

Education[edit]

What Subjects did Walter Murch study while learning to become a film editor and sound mixer. I know the universities he went to, but not the actual courses taken. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.155.98.165 (talkcontribs) 08:19, October 7, 2006 (UTC)

  • I don't know what courses he took, but he did not study film as an undergrad at Johns Hopkins, but at USC as a grad student. He majored in romance languages, specifically French and Italian. He has always stressed to me (his daughter) that it is important to get a liberal arts foundation and life experience. The technical aspects of film are easy enough to learn and don't really need that much study. It is life's richness and experience that help you make good films. Technical is only technical and is not the heart or soul of art. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blmurch (talkcontribs) 11:49, January 5, 2007 (UTC)

For anyone that is interested, here is a current copy of the Ebert blog post that our anon friend was pointing to above. https://www.rogerebert.com/rogers-journal/why-3d-doesnt-work-and-never-will-case-closed AlistairMcMillan (talk) 21:27, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

edit request[edit]

In 2012, Walter Murch was invited to serve as a mentor for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, an international philanthropic programme that pairs masters in their disciplines with emerging talents for a year of one-to-one creative exchange. Out of a very gifted field of candidates, Murch chose young Italian film editor Sara Fgaier as his protégée. Previous film mentors for the initiative include Mira Nair (2004), Stephen Frears (2006), Martin Scorsese (2008) and Zhang Yimou (2010).[1] Liana at RMP (talk) 15:43, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
