Untitled[edit]

Added a list of works by Annemarie Schimmel, the list is still not complete since she wrote more than 50 books. --Vonaurum 22:23, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Non-encyclopedic anecdote removed from Annemarie Schimmel page and moved here[edit]

The following passage was moved here from the Annemarie Schimmel page:

In an obituary Habib R. Sulemani wrote, “I had the honor to listen to her lecture in 1996 at the Goethe Institute in Lahore. It was really amazing to hear her speaking her mind with eyes closed. Psychologically, it was a difficult relationship between the speaker and the audience, as obviously she used to disconnect her contacts with the audience - no eye-to-eye contact. It seemed as if she connected herself with a divine power and got her thoughts from it. As it is a common practice here in this society to ask someone's faith, after the lecture, someone asked her if she had embraced Islam? After a scholarly lecture it was indeed a very difficult question, but she said neither 'yes' nor 'no'. Thus, she handled the situation very successfully.”[1]

In most cases, anecdotes such as this are not encyclopedic in nature. And with someone like Annemarie Schimmel, about whom there has been a great deal of academic commentary, journalists might not be the most authoritative source. Also see Talk:Habib R. Sulemani.

Convert to Islam?[edit]

I have never seen anything in her writings to suggest a conversion to Islam. I remember in one interview that she said she felt she was "Part Muslim" when someone pressed her on the issue, but this is a far cry from a full-fledged confession of faith. Until such a time as this can be verified, I'm removing her from the list of "Converts to Islam"Szfski (talk) 23:46, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Created References section[edit]

There was no References section, all the links were in the External links section. Have moved the Guardian obituary to References. Other than that, especially without footnotes, it's unclear what's been used to reference the article. Esowteric+Talk 12:13, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

wrong quotation reference[edit]

the quotation mentioned under the grave picture is from imam ali ibn abi taleb and not from prophet mohamad: الناس نيام فإذا ماتوا انتبهوا 2001:9E8:431:D500:812E:CF36:3806:C63D (talk) 10:26, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
