What do skates eat?[edit]

What do skates eat? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.147.214.174 (talkcontribs) 22:37, 3 January 2005‎ (UTC)[reply]

Skate vs. Ray?[edit]

How are Skates different from Rays? Just the way they reproduce? Because they look awfully similar. RobertM525 22:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The classification showed rays as a super order of Batoidea, while skates as family Rajidea, so, it means skates are a kind of rays, perhaps specifically, those that lays eggs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.46.92.17 (talk) 04:45, August 24, 2007 (UTC)

Cooked Skate[edit]

What does skate compare with as to texture, firmness, taste? How is it prepared? What seasonings and complementary tastes are common? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.39.104.246 (talk) 21:11, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

– I do not think this is the primary topic of "skate". I think there is no primary topic, considering ice skate and roller skate are commonly called "skates", therefore the disambiguation page skate (disambiguation) should be moved to "skate". A basic google search [1] turns up skateboard/ing as a prominent use as well. While at Google Books, the fish is rather less prominent than other uses. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 07:19, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Mild support - given that ice skate etc are at singular, therefore seems the fish isn't the primary singular topic either. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:11, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rofl, support. Indeed, primary topic is lacking here. Red Slash 22:32, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • support A bit like mercury where there are two primaries (the planet and the metal) here there are two common uses, the fish and the activity (though the sport is 'skating' the action is 'to skate'), both primary worthy but we can't have two.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 22:38, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. No evidence the fish is the primary topic. --В²C 04:37, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, pretty clear lack of a primary topic. Please fix incoming links before making the move, though. Cheers! bd2412 T 03:13, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. There are even more uses of "skate", like the small dollies used to move a heavy object on a flat floor. Sairp (talk) 11:18, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support; oddly enough I was just coming here to create a move request. Powers T 11:17, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:51, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Any additional comments:

Just looking at it more closely there are two dab pages, skate (disambiguation) and skating. Would it make sense to merge them or keep them separate? On the one hand they're already long enough, but having both skate and skating as dab pages seems odd as they're two forms of the same word.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 22:44, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think they should remain separate. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 05:10, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
