Talk:List of awards named after people

I don't see the need for this list, we have Category:Prizes that will give all the prizes, so this looks like duplication. If some are not named after people, then maybe create a sub category insteda of a list? I'm mindful of the fact I've broken the list principle myself, but have come to see they are a headache to maintain. -Wikibob | Talk 13:32, 2004 Jun 21 (UTC)

Is there any other page that gives the association between "name of prize:name of person" ? How will Category:Prizes acheive that ? Jay 14:12, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)
I don't think it will. This list also seems to fall under selective lists according to Wikipedia:Categorization:
Comprehensive lists, e.g. "List of all municipalities of Quuxen", annotated lists, and selective lists, e.g. "List of Quuxens that were Bazzed", should not be replaced with categories.
Otherwise I envisioned a Category:Prizes named after people that would be added to both the prize article and the person's article, but I'm not up on how best to use Categories so I'll just drop the idea. -Wikibob | Talk 14:43, 2004 Jun 21 (UTC)

Cleanup[edit]

These are the changes I am going to impose to bring this list to a higher standard apart from the addition of a table.

  • Awards that have an article of its own is only included, no redirects.
  • Awards that are named indirectly after a person, meaning awards directly named after a company or organisation that the person is named after is excluded unless a source is provided.
  • As above but named after a sponsor is excluded.
  • Sooner or later, I expect every one of these entries to be sourced.
  • To make this list look better presented, entries will appear on a table like this below.
Award Named after Field Achievement (The purpose of the award) Source
Walter Payton Man of the Year Award Walter Payton American football Honors a player's contribution to volunteer and charity work, as well as his excellence on the field [1]
