ofcourse consort. :) sorry for the malaproprism. - Kesava

merge[edit]

We've got two Mirabai articles! I suggest that they be merged to Mirabai, rather than to Meera.

Google has 603 hits for the exact phrase "meera bai", and 139,000 hits for the term "Mirabai". Plus, my readings indicate that Mirabai is the more typical spelling in English academic books. --goethean 19:56, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I support the merger. The link on the merge notice leads to the talk page on Mirabai, so I suggest that the discussion be continued there. In case there are no objections, I will complete the merger on 1st November with this page converted into a re-direct. --Gurubrahma 07:51, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Islamic Mughal Empire"[edit]

"During a war with the army of Babur – the founder of Islamic Mughal Empire in Indian subcontinent.". I do not find any need for mentioning Islamic Mughal Empire,it was of course Islamic, yes the part I quoted is related to Hindu-Muslim wars but I find it non-sense to include Islamic for that,no offence, there is no need of it. Edit:I removed Islamic from there.Haider67 (talk) 18:18, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It may be "it was of course Islamic" for you, but wiki readers include those for whom this is not obvious. So it stays. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 19:33, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced adds by Rajnish kamal[edit]

@Rajnish kamal: you keep changing sourced content, and adding unsourced content to this article, about dates of birth / death / place / etc in this article, even though your changes have been challenged. Do you have reliable sources per WP:V and WP:RS guidelines of wikipedia? Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 16:28, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Meera misc section of a newspaper from unknown author[edit]

@Krishnapaduka:, @Capankajsmilyo: Context matters when considering a source. Advertisements, misc sections, infomercials, particularly from unknown authors in newspaper/blog are not peer reviewed scholarly works nor WP:RS for a biography. This article and wikipedia in general, is not an indiscriminate source of information, see WP:WHIM. Please discuss the inserted content with a better source, gain consensus before adding it back, per WP:BRD guideline. No edit warring. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 12:30, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ms Sarah Welch Should it not be {{Infobox religious biography}} ? -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 12:47, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. Go ahead, change it. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 14:27, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if some more experienced Wikimedians related to Meera's life agree, at Meera#popular culture also Kiran Nagarkar's novel Cuckold may be mentioned? Happy editing, Roland zh (talk) 23:24, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Any evidence? The article list speeings as Meera and Meera Bai but the proposed spelling is not even mentioned.--64.229.167.158 (talk) 00:20, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Type Mirabai in google. Look at the number os search results. Now type Meera in google and look at the number of search results. Wikipedia can't be considered a reliable source.31.215.193.38 (talk) 15:34, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Yes, but remember both are human names, who are different from "Meera, the 16th-century bhakti saintess"... the subject of this article. For example, 1, 2, 3 etc. So, please do the stats and searches carefully. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 15:57, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Earlier, there were two Mirabai articles, one at Mirabai and one at Meera. When it was being merged most of the users supported merging it with Mirabai. But someone merged it to Meera instead. See history of Mirabai. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.215.192.96 (talk) 08:32, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Personal names noise notwithstanding, I think that ngram shows dominance of "Mirabai" vs. "Mira bai" and "Meera bai" (Meera alone is higher still, but it does have a lot of personal names noise itself). Oxford Bibliographies has it at "Mirabai". It is indeed hard to collect hard evidence, but I think we should AGF and rely on editors' sense, particularly as it was expressed in the merge discussion. • Note to closer – there is significant material at Talk:Mirabai and Talk:Mirabai/Archive 1 that should be preserved and consolidated into one archive if the article is moved and you choose to execute pageswap. No such user (talk) 10:04, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Meera is more common. Genealogizer (talk) 03:57, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Genealogizer: Some evidence to that effect would be helpful. I admit that my ngram has flaws, but so far you provided none. No such user (talk) 10:41, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The less incorrect chart. Search for "Meera", not "Meera bai". Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 12:28, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I did just that – but Meera is so common female name that it's guaranteed to pollute the results. Even if I "refine" the Gbook search for Meera poet, I get a lot of false positives even on the first couple of pages, by books written by Meera Shashidhara, Meera Goyal, Meera Malhotra, mentions of "marital problems of his daughter Meera", "girl named Meera Sen", Meera Atkinson, etc. No such user (talk) 13:33, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Bai is simply a suffix that serves as an honorific. Meera's poems/songs are invariably referred to as "Meera bhajans" and not "Meerabai bhajans", "Meera bai bhajans", "Mirabai bhajans", or "Mira bai bhajans". While it is true that Mirabai is also common, I think this is an unnecessary move.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 14:47, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Support Meera may confuse people and mislead them. Mirabai is more common even though bai is a suffix. Meera is also an Indian name, leading to more confusion. South Indian Geek (talk) 18:14, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the article[edit]

Refer earlier discussion regarding this. Name of the article should be "Meerabai" rather than Meera, because, in India, she is known as Meerabai. Reasons substantiating this are discussed in length, which conversation is available in talk page. Somebody, kindly change the name of the article to "Meerabai" -Rayabhari (talk) go

MeeraMirabai – Mirabai or Mira Bai is clearly the Common Name as per WP:RS in the article. For example:

Isn't bai an honorific? As I understand it, it's like calling someone Da or Ma(i) or putting Sri before their name. She was called Mira/Meera but she is respectfully called Mirabai, where bai means respected mother/elder female. So I'm not sure it should move. Which policy takes precedence? Dāsānudāsa (talk) 20:42, 19 June 2021 (UTC) Relisting. BD2412 T 03:58, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dāsānudāsa: it will come under recognizability. Title or not, the saint is most popular as Mirabai, not Meera. Meera is a common female name and is not specifically used for the saint. Upon searching "Meera" on Google, it will show the saint as "Mirabai" on the main page. You may check google books also. .245CMR.👥📜 03:29, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, as per this [1], Honorifics can be included in the title of an article about a saint, if it is the common name..245CMR.👥📜 03:34, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Leaning support. This seems comparable to Mahatma Gandhi, which incorporates an honorific as part of the common name. BD2412 T 04:02, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as per WP:HONORIFIC - "Where an honorific is so commonly attached to a name that the name is rarely found in English reliable sources without it, it should be included". WP:COMMONNAME evidenced by links provided by 245CMR.Redtigerxyz Talk 11:48, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
