Images[edit]
Although that's one of my favorite images, It's not from NASA or in the public domain. APOD lists Jason Ware as the picture source. Jason has a website with pretty clear use rules. I am sending him an e-mail to ask for his permission to use his images on Wikipedia and will report back... --mh 03:09, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)
Jason has responded fairly positively: "I have no problem leaving them on the site with proper credit and a link to my site." I have noticed a few APOD images of his on Wikipedia that are misidentified. I will try to track them down and edit the image links to include a copyright but permission granted template on them and a link to his site. --mh 17:36, Dec 13, 2004 (UTC)
Second update: Sadly, I wasn't clear on the new direction of Wikipedia to purge all copyrighted, non free-use material. When I got back in touch with Jason about the possibility of GNU-FDL, he said it sounded too complicated and he'd rather have them removed, especially because they are not credited properly. We will need to only use external links back to APOD (like those here) for all his images. I personally think it's a shame Wikipedia can't use copyrighted, but permission granted material, but I just got here :) I'll make an effort to have his images removed over the next few days. --mh 17:44, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)
Coordinates[edit]
The J2000 coordinates listed at the top-right of the page needs to be fixed. The right ascension is off by 1 second (17.1 doesn't round up to 18), and the declination is way wrong - should be 44d31'44", and not 44d30'60". apparent magnitude[edit]
The infobox has 4.0, while my book has 16! I know magnitudes vary by source, but 12 is too much. I wonder if there can be a reasonable justification for the 16 figure. 85.217.34.203 (talk) 02:32, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

New image[edit]
In the infobox, I have placed a new free-use image with a very detailed high resolution source, which I believe is more representative. Moved the multi-paneled "changing face" page to the gallery section. If any issues with this change, please comment. Assambrew (talk) 01:14, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
