Hello-

I appreciate your interest in cleaning up links & redirects re:Arizona, but I think you misunderstood the Arizona State Parks article. Stubby as it is, this article is (as the introduction states, and capitalization of name implies) about the agency known as Arizona State Parks which administers the parks listed there. So, if anything, the two articles should be broken up--not renamed "List of etc etc". Changing the name also causes some of the articles, like Cochise County, to not make sense (e.g. previously it read "Sites administered by Arizona State Parks," meaning the agency and linking to the agency w/included list, wheras now it reads "Sites administered by List of Arizona State Parks" which is nonsense--and I don't think we'd gain anything by piping the link). I just wanted to let you know what I'm thinking so that we don't end up going back and forth. I haven't changed anything yet, but I'll probably try to look at it again in a day or so.  :) Cheers, Iroll 07:37, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Southern Tier

I live in Sayre, Pennsylvania and was born in Binghamton, New York, so the interest in making an article about the Twin Tiers region has been there, but you beat me to making a (quite nice!) article on the Southern Tier. Actually, you've got me thinking, maybe it is best to use List of historic regions of the United States--we have former countries on there--no reason not to have former colonial possesions--they were part of the U.S. No reason not to explain things there. North River

Definitely I would redo the map to "the bend" only, and you might as well remove the reference to Harlem River. I have seen references to the "North or Hudson River" well into English times (indicating alternate usage) and in the modern era (i.e., since the Revolution) North is the river up to the bend.

Thanks for responding. I've only started to appreciate what's happening with Paul Smith. My first reaction to your comments on the Talk:Priory of Sion page was that you had taken a heavy-handed approach. Since then I have come to see how Paul Smith works where he completely deletes anything that runs contrary to his views, and has even managed to convince Jimbo Wales that he is some kind of angel working for more accurate articles. I agree with Loremaster that there is much interesting and seemingly useful material on Smith's website, but his behaviour here has made me question whether his dealing with the issue of Pierre Plantard is as honest as he would have us believe. I think you'll enjoy the museum, a lot. I hung out there often when I was a kid (and it was free, like most NYC museums) and I was really surprised when I started visiting again with my kids. Better and worse. Transient exhibits are much more nicely mounted now, and attendance is way up--however, it is pricy (though you can still get in for free, technically) and unrecognizable from my youth. It used to have the feel of the British Museum in London (a la The Mummy) but is now totally different inside. Cecropia 03:35, 26 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hey. Can I two favors of you regarding your use of "test deleted" warnings?

• I've been told it's prefrable to use {{subst:test}} instead of {{msg:test}}. See this reference - it's about {{msg:vfd}} but the point still stands.
• Could you please sign and date your test messages (~~~~)? It makes it easier for the next administrator to determing whether this guy is on a real vandalism spree, or whether this is the first test after, say, six months. :)

Tompkinsville

Yeah, the "Tompkinsville, New York" refs come straight from DANFS, which often uses archaic names - sometimes I think they did it so the account uses contemporaneous names, other times I think the places were just names; the Navy historians didn't have the luxury of a Wikipedia connecting to a fuller account of a term that their narratives mention. Disambiguating Rivers

I just had to spend quite a while disambiguating several river articles you created. A good place to check is the USGS database. It will at least alert you to U.S.-based multiple names before you start an article. For example Wind River had articles refering to three different Wind Rivers all aimed at your article on the one in Wyoming. Rmhermen 15:48, May 13, 2004 (UTC)

I should mention that the USGS list has the annoying habit of listing inlet and outlet streams as separate rivers. One I just saw had a Salmon River flow in a Salmon River Reservoir and a separate Salmon River flow out of it -all in the same county! Rmhermen 16:42, May 13, 2004 (UTC)

Highlighting of rivers

I went back to the Virgin River article, and this time the highlighting showed up, although not with great prominence. I understand your statement that it may depend on the browser and computer, but it also seems to depend in part on the angle at which I view the screen and how tired I am! My computer is a Toshiba laptop with Celeron processor, 15.0" diagonal XGA display, running MSIE 6.0. The underlying problem may be that the entire Colorado River system is in blue, with the highlighted river being distinguished only by use of a somewhat different shade of blue.

Another issue about the map you've used is that, for better or worse, most readers are more familiar with man-made landmarks than with natural features. That map is perfect for showing the California Central Valley, which stands out well even without the red outlining. For a river system, though, I suspect most readers would have a better idea of its location if it were presented in the context of state boundary lines and major cities. What would you think about using this Colorado River basin map or one like it? The scale is more appropriate; we don't really need a map that includes parts of Canada. Also, with the uniformly gray background, it would be easier to highlight a particular tributary. JamesMLane 23:03, 15 May 2004 (UTC)

Your latest version is a big improvement. The green highlighting shows up much better for me, and the superimposed state boundaries will be very useful to the reader. Great work! I have only one minor query -- is there any reason the border between the United States and Mexico is a dotted line for California and part of Arizona, and then switches to a solid line for the rest of Arizona as well as New Mexico and Texas?
