Fender Squier Standard Telecaster has an agathis body[edit]

Jurassic distribution of which group?[edit]

In the first paragraph, where it discusses Jurassic distribution, does "they" refer to Agathis or the Araucariaceae in general? The text isn't very clear. 75.213.102.72 (talk) 23:13, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Commercial link removed[edit]

I removed some material and a link relating to ancient kauri, thinking I would place it on the A. australis page which was the species involved. On closer look the link was a commercial so I won't place it or the material anywhere. Kahuroa (talk) 20:50, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rot resistant? Really?[edit]

Although Kauri is a fantastic wood for many purposes. It is not really rot "resistant". This term should be reserved for wood such as Western Red Cedar and Teak that contain natural toxins that kill fungus.Cedar is regularly used for house cladding without paint etc. Kauri needs protection from the elements -like most timber- ie paint, varnish or epoxy resin as a water barrier. On the other hand it doesnt rot as quickly as say Pinus Radiata or Kahikatea (NZ white pine). Kauri would never be used in a lightweight hull designed for racing as it is simply too heavy.On a cruising boat it is great, though these days it is usually reserved for areas that are finished bright like the cockpit or cabin. Nz Kauri is now very expensive -if you can get it at all(apart from swamp Kauri or recycled Kauri). In fact most Kauri sold on Nz now comes from Fiji. Claim that a photo of a seed is mislabelled[edit]

The following note was added to the article in the edit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Agathis&diff=804439052&oldid=787844881. I have moved the note here. I don't know whether the statement is true.

"The provided photo identified as a kauri Agathis australis seed is clearly NOT a seed, but a mismatched image." Nurg (talk) 22:41, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The photo is indeed not a seed, but a segment or scale from the female cone. A seed would have lain on the scale. I have fixed the image caption.  Junglenut |Talk  22:56, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Authority dates[edit]

@Junglenut: Please use this talkpage rather than my usertalk. I get that when mentioning botanical authorities the date of publication are often omitted, but this is not universal, and you did not attempt to re-add this information elsewhere in the article.
