Just dropping a hello. Sorry if my edits on [[Jurassic Park}} were rather harshly-worded (in retrospect). I have restored the first paragraph (what was I thinking?). The meaning of the second paragraph is clear to me from your notes, but I think it needs to be made clear that genetic engineering (or artificial selection) on this scale is presently unfeasible. I like your user page, and I also have a focus upon correcting bad science or bias in wikipedia. I'll get back to this issue as soon as possible.--ChrisJMoor 02:37, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"Walking with Dinosaurs" screenshots![edit]

How excllent! I hope you'll make a long series of "Dinosaurs" and "Mammals" screenshots: Wikipedia needs these illustrations! --Wetman 05:50, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I'd really like to describe every episode of the series, as my brother has them on VHS. I downloaded the screenshot and didn't shoot it myself. I don't know if it was ever released on DVD. (and I hope it's not a copyright infringement) — Phlebas 16:28, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Titanosaur[edit]

Hi there. It's good to see someone new working on dinosaurs (and yes, I even saw you join the dead-on-arrival WikiProject :). But could you move Titanosauridae back to titanosaur? The article actually discusses Titanosauria in general, including the family, and how the largest grouping of sauropods is still vague, given the dubious anchor taxa and all the missing skulls. I followed the ToL guideline of defaulting to the lowest covered taxa in the taxobox, which may have been incorrect -- I have no problem with changing the taxobox to Titanosauria (and probably should, since at least two of the listed genera are commonly classified as nemegosaurids). If you do a Google check the term "titanosaur" is more than five times more common than titanosaurid, titanosaurian, Titanosauridae, and Titanosauria, so the article title should use the common name (similar to the way the article is correctly at dinosaur, not dinosaurian or Dinosauria). I was careful about using titanosaurid when I referred to just the family in the article (the eggs), but that probably should be clarified. 68.81.231.127 19:24, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The formal vernacular for titanosaur is Titanosaurus... but it's not actually used that way. Please switch it back. There is a clear standard, and it supports the common usage. Are you suggesting dinosaur should be moved to Dinosauria? 68.81.231.127 19:16, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Storm[edit]

Hi there! I don't know if those titles have been published in English, but since this is the en. wikipedia I felt there should at least be a translation for the Dutch words. Maybe a note should be added to reflect that. Regarding Kleinspace, I think it does refer to 'Mr. Bottle' Klein, since if it were to be 'small space' the correct Dutch title would be "de kleine ruimte", not "de ruimte van klein". Also, it's congruent with earlier titles referring to physicians, e.g. Von Neumann. HTH! Radiant_>|< 07:37, Jun 8, 2005 (UTC)

Cut and paste move[edit]

Hello Phlebas. I noticed you have performed a cut and paste move ([1] [2]), but then as previous contributors have to be credited, cut and paste move is discouraged. I have put up a request to fix move. :-) — Instantnood 17:25, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

Issues around the use of the phrase "mainland China" has been discussed around for several months (as you might have already recognised from the naming conventions talk page), I don't want it to be further complicated. :-D — Instantnood 17:33, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)
Yea I noticed that. :-) I agree with the move, but I'm worried the problem would be complicated. — Instantnood 17:37, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

I don't have a problem with it. Try asking User:Lvr as well, he started work on Franco-Belgian publishing houses. Mikkel 21:00, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

KMMA[edit]

Ik vind de nlwiki en alle anderstalige wikis tijdsverpilling (all other wikis are a waste of time) en veel te gezellig. enwiki is a lot more exciting and it sharpens my english (sharpens-that's probably incorrect). Maar ik zal is effe kijken naar de KMMA op nlwiki. Ik zou er doodgraag willen werken...

eerste nl.wikimedia.org ontmoeting[edit]

Cut-and-paste moves[edit]

Hi, you used a cut-and-paste move to move Rail transportation in China to Rail transport in mainland China. Please don't do cut-and-paste moves, as it separates the article from its history, which we need to keep for Wikipedia:Copyright reasons. I see you are now aware that one should use WP:RM for help with moves if the "Move this page" link/tab doesn't work. I will fix this one - have you done any others?

PS: I don't usually check other User_talk: pages (so that I don't have to monitor a whole long list of User_Talk: pages - one for each person with whom I am having a "conversation"), so please leave any messages for me on my talk page (above); if you leave a message for me here I probably will not see it. I know not everyone uses this style (they would rather keep all the text of a thread in one place), but I simply can't monitor all the User_talk: pages I leave messages on. Thanks!

Hello, Names Pat. As you may have realized by clicking on the electric bicycle link this page is in dispute. It is currently redirected to motorized bicycle. As, an environmentalist, I would imagine you should be concerned about the proper identification of the green environmentally friendly method of transportion ("electric bicycle" that is) vs. all "motorized bicycles" (which more then often consist of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE)). Essentially, I am trying to get the redirect removed so I can develop the "electric bicycle" article. Your opinion on the subject would be greatly appreciate in the wikipedia redirect removal section. You can find comments about this date for Nov. 5... or simply search bicycle (alt+f with windows explorer). Seing as you enjoy clean, grean environmentally friendly I figured you might vote in favor to remove the re-direct and give us the oppertunaty to start a nice article. However, I also figured that you might be able to, or might know someone that can, contribute elements of contrast, some interesting health and environment facts. I hope to talk to you soon. Best wishes. --CyclePat 04:41, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to the Forgotten Realms project[edit]

Hi,

We are working on a Forgotten Realms Project to map Toril (mostly Faerûn, at the present). Since you contributed quite a lot on a Forgotten Realms-specific entry, I'd like to invite you to join the project, so we could improve the “Mapping the Realms” project.

The goal is to create a sort of World Factbook for the Realms. This means:

  • A consistent content
  • Use of templates
  • Entries should be limited to “sovereign places”: states and free cities, as well a moderately-inhabited place such as the Western Highlands.

On top of this, we also plan to cover Lost Empires, such as Pelvuria or Imaskar and, of course, Netheril

Main contributors are presently

If you know some other person who would be interested, feel free to forward the invitation!

Feel free to take a look. We hope to see you soon mapping the Realms with us! Reply to David Latapie 12:41, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My Attempt:[edit]

Since Wikipedia:WikiProject Dinosaurs is becoming a bit dormant of late, I've decided to get it reactivated. I've started putting the following templates all over the show, & I'd appreciate if someone would try putting them on too. Remember, they only go on Dinosaur orientated artcle's TALK pages. Not the articles themselves.

WikiProject iconDinosaurs NA‑class
WikiProject iconThis article is within the scope of WikiProject Dinosaurs, a collaborative effort to improve the coverage of dinosaurs and dinosaur-related topics on Wikipedia. If you would like to participate, please visit the project page, where you can join the discussion and see a list of open tasks.
NAThis article has been rated as NA-class on Wikipedia's content assessment scale.

So, finally, while I work on the project with a designer, in order to get more people, thus more pages, I would appreciate if you didn't move or shift (or stuff up for that matter) any of the work I'll be doing, like adding templates, protocols to the project page, etc etc. I'm hoping to get it up to the standard of The military history project. So, tell your friends to join up, or spam unknowing people & continue to do great articles. I no time, we'll have an awesome, professional project page! Spawn Man 03:51, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New improvement[edit]

As per step three (on the dinosaur project talk page), I promised to ask a general consensus about any new improvements made. So, I'd like everyone to give comments on the new talk page banner:

What does everyone think of it? It's meant to be placed on the talk page of dinosaur related articles, so everytime you edit an article, placing this there would make our job easier. So a few questions I'd like everyone to answer:

1)Does everyone like the picture? 2)Is the wording adequate? 3)Any other queries/problems?

I've successfully created an open list of tasks on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Dinosaurs main page for those who would actually like to know what to do with their time on the project. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Diebahn pos.gif)[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Diebahn pos.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. WikiProject Dinosaurs[edit]

Hi Phlebas!

There's currently less than 100 dinosaurs left on the Missing dinosaur page. We've come a long way! I was thinking that since there's just under 100 dinosaurs left, and since there are 25 of us signed on for the project, if we each wrote about four articles, we'd be done! Well, not "done", obviously, as many of the articles are in need of expansion. But then we could focus on expansion and other things.

You could take, say, Poposaurus, Priconodon, Priodontognathus and Procerosaurus.

It's just an idea, of course, and you're of course not obligated and can do whatever you like; I just figured I'd mention the idea, and see if you were interested. No harm, right?

Take care, --Firsfron 07:00, 23 April 2006 (UTC) :)[reply]

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Mono (Dutch band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Importance). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Mono (Dutch band). If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -- Koffieyahoo 05:20, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Fair use rationale problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Spike&suzy 208.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —♦♦ SʘʘTHING(Я) 05:37, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Train_electrification_Belgium.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:09, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Science lovers wanted![edit]

Science lovers wanted!
Hi! I'm serving as the wikipedian-in-residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives until June! One of my goals as resident, is to work with Wikipedians and staff to improve content on Wikipedia about people who have collections held in the Archives - most of these are scientists who held roles within the Smithsonian and/or federal government. I thought you might like to participate since you are interested in the sciences! Sign up to participate here and dive into articles needing expansion and creation on our to-do list. Feel free to make a request for images or materials at the request page, and of course, if you share your successes at the outcomes page you will receive the SIA barnstar! Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to your participation! Sarah (talk) 20:16, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
