Welcome!

Hello, Beta, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Again, welcome!

I have moved some of your dcu stuff to List of alumni of Dublin City University. Djegan 17:55, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Albert College[edit]

You have placed a considerable amount of material (written and visual) regarding Albert College in the Dublin City University article - it might be worth considering creating a Albert College (Dublin) article to place this material in as Albert College has a history of its own and is certainly a deserving case considering its diverse history as farm, college and university?

Djegan 14:37, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

There's alot less information on the web about Albert College than on DCU. It'll involve looking up old archives from Albert College in the DCU library. This may take a while.

Dublin City University/various[edit]

I have created a to do list at Talk:Dublin City University - may prove useful as an aid to moving forward, fill it out as you wish. I also created the category Category:Dublin City University, please feel free to add relevent articles. Djegan 15:48, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hi Beta, regarding the images you uploaded it would be a good idea provide source and copyright info and tag them if neccessary, for instance {{fairuse}} on their image description page. This is because wikipedia has policies regarding uploaded files and has got stricter recently, resulting in more deletions of images without this info. If you need help just leave a message on my page. Djegan 22:01, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Beta, me again. I hope you read the above, leave a message on my talk page if any questions as the images you have uploaded are good and it would be a shame if they were deleted because of no info. Djegan 21:19, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Read your reply, you can find out what images you uploaded at [1]. If your not sure on tags just supply information on where the image came from or why you think it should be included (fair use, publicy available or own image). A lot of good images have being deleted in the last few months because of no info. Djegan 21:35, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Ballymun road entrance.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Image copyright problem with Image:Ryan_Academy_Lecture_Theatres.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ryan_Academy_Lecture_Theatres.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you. -- Carnildo 07:13, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting articles[edit]

A word of advice when creating articles. Wiki formatting really hates lines that start with a space, especially on long lines, and ends up formatting them like this:

 * Vision in the Curriculum:An evaluation ofthe Fis Project in Primary schools in Ireland, Fis Project/Dept of Education and Science, 2005.

Instead, always start at the left margin. To indent, add colons (:) to the left.

  • Vision in the Curriculum:An evaluation ofthe Fis Project in Primary schools in Ireland, Fis Project/Dept of Education and Science, 2005.
  • Vision in the Curriculum:An evaluation ofthe Fis Project in Primary schools in Ireland, Fis Project/Dept of Education and Science, 2005.
  • Vision in the Curriculum:An evaluation ofthe Fis Project in Primary schools in Ireland, Fis Project/Dept of Education and Science, 2005.

Hope this helps. Fan1967 20:36, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dublin City University professors[edit]

You are adding a lot of articles about Dublin City University professors, and I'm not seeing any notability. You need to assert notability or they may be deleted. I'll be listing them at Wikipedia:Articles for Deletion shortly to get a consensus from other editors. Aplomado talk 20:51, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Irish academics category was very small, I thought I'd do my bit to flesh it out a bit. Beta

Well, just because there is a category for Irish academics doesn't mean that all Irish academics are notable enough for an article. WP:BIO might give you some guidance there. Cheers. Aplomado talk 21:04, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You probably have more of an objective view on it than I do, Which ones were you planning on removing?

Humanities academics seem to publish more often than Science/Engineering/Business academics and thus become more well known. Because of this, the list is destined to become a bit lopsided in favour of the arts I suppose. Beta

I listed all of them for discussion since none of them assert any real notability as per WP:BIO. Sorry to do this if you spent a lot of time with it, but I feel like these would be listed at Articles for Deletion eventually. The sooner we get a consensus on it the better before you spend more time on it.
I hope you continue to contribute, though. Aplomado talk 21:18, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many of the academics on the first part of the notable academics list here are well known in Ireland and have been on debating programmes and other political discussion programmes on television over here.Beta

OK, I'll make a note of that at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gillian McMahon. Aplomado talk 21:30, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Caoilfhionn Nic Pháidín, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Caoilfhionn Nic Pháidín satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Caoilfhionn Nic Pháidín and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Caoilfhionn Nic Pháidín during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Image:Ryan Academy Lecture Theatres.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ryan Academy Lecture Theatres.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nilfanion (talk) 23:09, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Seatingplan - The MahonyUpperFloor.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Seatingplan - The MahonyUpperFloor.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Thank you. Sherool (talk) 11:30, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe this also applies to Image:Seatingplan - The Theatre.gif, Image:Seatingplan - The MahonyGroundFloor.gif, Image:Space.jpg, Image:The theatre.jpg, Image:Mahony.jpg, Image:Helix night.jpg and Image:The Helix.jpg. --Sherool (talk) 11:30, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:The Helix.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article is a repost of either already posted material, or of material that was previously deleted under Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion. If you can indicate how Image:The Helix.jpg is different from all other articles, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}}, and also put a note on [[Talk:Image:The Helix.jpg]] saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we ask you to follow these instructions. Chowbok 22:56, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An image that you uploaded, Image:TheHelixPlaza.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

MECUtalk 16:34, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted it (again) as explained above, the image is licensed under a incompatable license, User "Crypto" on Flickr have licensed the image under a non-commercial, non-derivatives only license (wich is not allowed on Wikipedia) and you can not simply take his photo, upload it here and change the license as you see fit. Try contacting this Flickr user instead and ask him to change the license on the photo to something that can be used on Wikipedia rater than uploading it over and over again. DCU Template[edit]

You know you could of just changed the existing template rather than a new one. Djegan 18:02, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Mobile Phone Flash Sticker, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria.

(The above is just boilerplate from a template.)
The text from the article might make a decent section of the mobile phone article, and otherwise seems a long, long way from deserving an article of its own. You might want to merge it there.
There are no sources cited; if you worked hard, you might be able to find publications in IEEE journals or the like that better describe how the stickers work and whatnot. The information there would also help you flesh out the article. Cheers, Lunch 17:21, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:DCU Fencing Club.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DCU Fencing Club.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:06, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Derek Molloy, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Derek Molloy. advice[edit]

If you want to rescue these articles, you need to considerably expand them. You need in particular some real evidence that what they did was important. This can be book reviews if they've published books, or citation records,if they've published papers, or prizes, with references to the, or articles about public service. If they've been of TV or whatever, find some references to this. I am sorry I do not have timeto help these articles individually myself ; if you need help find reviews or others sources, try a college library. You are within your rights in removing the prods, but unless there is more, they do not have very much chance at AfD. My advice is that any who have been a full professor are much more likely to be defensible.DGG (talk) 23:38, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for assistance[edit]

I see you are around. Could you please take some responsibility for the articles you've written, and supply enough information for us to keep them in WP. If you have any interest in the faculty of DCU, surely you dont just want to write articles about them, but reasonably good article.s I've been trying to fix up some of them, but it really should be you doing it. If you need help finding materials, any librarian can help you find all their publications--and even their cvs alone list some of it, as does google Scholar.DGG (talk) 14:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Beta! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 9 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. File permission problem with File:Ryan Academy.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ryan Academy.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 07:08, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
