Reasons for Voyager ratings increase[edit]

Are there any circumstances under which any non-free image can be used in a WP:BIO? From what I'm reading, I'm beginning to suspect the answer is no - A little too conservative for my taste, but please let us know if there's a way around it. Not for the infobox, no. However, if the inclusion of the image is to provide critical commentary on the image itself, it can be allowed. We are looking for an image to depict Jeri Ryan, though, and no fair-use image can be allowed for that. Wikipedia's policy is certainly much stricter than U.S. fair-use doctrine allows for but the reason for this is that we are trying to build a free encyclopedia; copyright restrictions are "unfree". --Yamla 01:43, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. You can use an image of her as Seven of Nine in the infobox. Problem is, she has to die first. It's at that point that no free image could conceivably be produced. Yes, MA is the Wikipedia of the Star Trek world but their policies are not the same as ours. That image is copyrighted by Paramount and is used under a claim of fair use. Military Brat?[edit]

Isn't this a subjective word and not encyclopedic? Yeah, it's a term used to describe a subculture, but it might be more appropriate to lead into the term, like "a subculture commonly referred to as a military brat".NG Dissonance (talk) 07:25, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Voyager Elite Force Voiceover Credit[edit]

On August 18, 2009, I updated the article to accurately credit Jeri Ryan's voiceover for the game Elite Force. Her Seven Of Nine voiceover performance did not occur in a retail version until the Expansion Pack. The voiceover for the initial game release is credited to Joan Buddenhagen. On January 29, 2010, I attached Ryan's voiceover credit specifically to the official game patch (version 1.2). The original retail game was never re-released to include her voiceover work for Seven Of Nine by default, so as it stands the voiceover credit for Seven Of Nine in Star Trek: Elite Force still belongs to Joan Buddenhagen. Ryan's voiceover credit doesn't take effect until the optional official Raven code is applied through an optional official patch. I have included the citation from IMDB indicating that Joan Buddenhagen is credited for Seven Of Nine "pre-patch"; official Raven or Activision references are non-existant. Would a filmography table be desirable?[edit]

I wanted to know if having a table for Ms. Ryan's filmography would be useful? Some Wikipedia actors have it for their entry. See Jennifer Aniston's entry for one example. It displays the information very attractively. You can make the case that the current code is easier for everyone to work with. However, once the table is put into place it is mostly just a matter of replication as following items are added. Barack Obama/ call for contributions[edit]

While Jeri Ryan is certainly an attractive lady, this article should include a fuller account of her involvement in American history. President Obama was an underdog with a previous loss on his record when, in one of those only-in-Chicago moments, his opponent's confidential divorce records were made public, in a highly unusual legal move. The underdog won and eventually became President. Both Ryan and her husband were bitter. Ryan seems to have been merely repeating some fantasy of her husband's-- but I don't want to start doing "original research." My point is that we need more than a stub on this. There is an abundance of articles and books which describe the Ryan's divorce records and Obama's election. Anyone writing about American political history should cite them for us. As it appears her role was passive, she'd divorced her husband nearly a decade before the 2008 elections, her "role in history" is very tangential. Her place in events, such as it was, is covered here. If there is already an abundance of records, as you say, then we needn't expand an article on an actress who had the misfortune to once have been married to Jack Ryan into some sort of American History Story. I don't think you understand history or timeline. The election in question was in 2004, not 2008. Barack Obama was running for US senator from Illinois against Mr. Ryan and in March 2004 they were neck and neck with most polls showing Ryan ahead and some showing Obama ahead. Some details of the Jeri Ryan post divorce child custody deposition were leaked in late March and by June when they were unsealed Ryan had plunged 20 points in the polls. The 2004 leaking and unsealing of the divorce papers in the middle of that competitive 2004 election was massively covered in the popular press, especially the television news/entertainment programming. This was a huge event in popular culture, and affected political events at the highest level. It is used as a case study in popular culture affecting US politics in no less than the communications program at Syracuse university. it is clearly one of the more if not most remarkable aspects of her notability, and certainly noted in academic work as such.
