Cause of death[edit]

Untitled[edit]

Article renamed; Raglan is a title, not a surname. -- Someone else 23:00 Feb 11, 2003 (UTC)

I have to protest at Raglan being described as displaying 'the promptness and resolution of his youth' at Balaklava and Inkerman. He harly took part at all and was virtually unheard from or seen. Except to occasionaly command frontal assaults by tiny cadres of troops.

Also despite the fact that home authoritites were to blame for the shambolic logistics, Raglan refused to allow the purchase of wood from Anatolia to allow for floors for tents to be made or fires for the men to dry out.

He was imho a true example of a thoroughly incompetant commander.

If no one objects I will amend the article to this effect.

Date of death[edit]

I found Lord Raglan's date of death given at the top of the article as 28 June 1855, and in the body of the article as 9 July (both unsupported by citation). According to a reasonable near-contemporary authority, Raglan died on 29 June 1855^[1]^{: p 302} and I have amended both dates accordingly. Bjenks (talk) 15:34, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Raglan Road Dublin[edit]

Could mention that Raglan Rd in Dublin is named after him. Though clearly would need a citation. Aberdeen01 (talk) 16:04, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Portrayal[edit]

Regarding the reference to individual's portrayal by Sir John Gielgud; was he not known as Lord Raglan (as opposed to Somerset) by the time of the Crimea War? BlueSulla (talk) 01:36, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I would make the point that this individual is probably more widely known as Lord Raglan, and is referred to as such in the film. In addition, the following appears in help relating to the use of surnames: "People who are best known by a pseudonym should be subsequently referred to by their pseudonymous surnames". I do not think it is a significant issue, only that from the point of view of the general reader, the formal title may be more appropriate.BlueSulla (talk) 15:52, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
