Untitled[edit]

If you go here:[1] You'll find an aerial photograph. The center of the Hexagon is the place where King George's statue was placed - removed after independence. India gate is to its left. The Oval is the National Stadium. Rajpath runs straight from the oval through the center of the Hexagon to Vijay Chowk. The Long white lines on either side of Rajpath are the water bodies that I first described using the word Pond, then Canal and now Pool. They are three feet-four deep. If you know what the right word is please use it.............

They are artificially formed small bodies of still water? Then they're ponds. Average Earthman 11:40, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Translations[edit]

Wouldn't it help to have translations of severals phrases--like Vikram Chowk? Or, in cases, where the phrase used is the official name, maybe an explanation.

Also, maybe put in a phrase that says something like:

...Rajpath, also known as King's Way (which is what it means in Hindi/Sanskrit])...

--iFaqeer 20:49, Sep 17, 2004 (UTC)

Hi iFaqeer, I think translation will help. I'll put it in the place where I've described those places. Thank for the input. Its Vijay Chowk btw :-) --Ankur 04:35, 18 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I have put translations where each name first appears.
Isn't Square more appropriate for Chowk?
Also, what does Sansad mean? We still need to translate Sansad Marg.--iFaqeer 05:42, Sep 18, 2004 (UTC)
Not sure if it is appropriate to make the second sentence loooong by adding translations there. Besides no need for translating Vijay Chowk thrice. Anyway Sansad means Parliament. Indian Parliament is called Sansad Bhavan. Sansad Marg is Parliament street. Finally, Vijay Chowk and Sansad Marg are proper nouns - no need to translate them. Its like if a street was named Faqeer Street, you wont translate? Sansad Bhavan and Rashtrapati Bhavan have both English and Hindi names tho. About Chowk I still think it means crossing, but Vijay Chowk is a Square (and a crossing :-). Edit the way you want but these are my suggestion. Are you not from Pakistan btw? --Ankur 05:51, 18 Sep 2004 (UTC)

New delhi is also called Lutyen's Delhi??? Bharatveer 11:51, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Modified the sentences to remove RAP phrases Bharatveer 12:00, 30 April 2006 (UTC) I have removed the sentence " ....New delhi called Lutyen's Delhi" because it is not called so. Bharatveer 06:22, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think the term is used for a specific area, judging by the entries from a google search [2]. Average Earthman 08:08, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Change The Rajpath to Kartavya Path[edit]

Hello This Is aryan Should we officially Changed Wikimedia page Rajpath To kartavyapath because Its also officially changed by the Government Of india also, Please Give here some suggestions

Sincerely, Aryan 2600:1700:A2C0:C170:5802:4A88:B72E:22B3 (talk) 20:37, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Page names in wikipedia are not necessarily changed because there is a change in the official name. As per Wikipedia:Common names, Rajpath is still the common name of the boulevard, and will remain until Kartavya Path becomes the common name. Dhruv edits (talk) 14:05, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ideally, we should, but we can't. You see, Wikipedia names places and locations according to the common names of it, not official. For example, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) was officially renamed to Chhatrapati Shivaji 'Maharaj' Terminus (CSMT), but as it is still commonly referred to as CST, the unofficial name persists. The same will apply to this article.

Rajpath[edit]

Why Rajpath is made ? 117.99.228.214 (talk) 14:42, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Move this page from Rajpath to Kartavya path[edit]

It now should be moved from Rajpath to Kartavya Path. Rahil1610 (talk) 08:58, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is referred to kartavya path already in most media. In twitter and reddit discussions it is highly apparent that people are using the new name much more than rajpath. 2601:5C0:C280:C6D0:D444:85D7:FA8D:AD57 (talk) 20:37, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's why i am saying Rahil1610 (talk) 04:31, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
rename rajpath and make kartvyapath Musicalartist071 (talk) 10:03, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

translation[edit]

For those of us not knowing Hindi it would be nice to have a translation of Kartavya. (It's not in either of the two news articles linked, which are Indian media and reasonably suppose their audience already know the word.) —Tamfang (talk) 23:21, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RajpathKartavya Path – "Rajpath" was the original name of this template, and we should revert to Kartavya Path. Maheep Singh24 (talk) 09:28, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Since not WP:COMMONNAME, Delhi Tourism site still has the old name. Economic Times, Zee News used it in Dec 2023/ Jan 2024 for Republic day celebrations. Redtigerxyz Talk 17:10, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
