Untitled[edit]

Schrader's version of "The Exorcist" will be released as a world premiere at the Brussel's International Festival of Fantasy Film on Friday, March 18th, 2005. See [1] Awesome. I'll get in my Time Machine and travel to the past. Gingermint (talk) 10:39, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Eames[edit]

So what was his involvement with the designers and film-makers, Charles and Ray Eames? Gingermint (talk) 10:39, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Serious film student/buff/critic needed for article[edit]

I became interested in Schrader after watching the documentary Easy Riders, Raging Bulls which he contributed a lot of commentary, but am yet to see any of the films he scripted or directed. So while I feel he is a subject worthy of an article in Wikipedia, I haven't been able to flesh it out very well, and would love it if someone would do this. redcountess 15:13, Mar 25, 2005 (UTC)

German ancestry[edit]

Does anyone have a source that he's of significant German ancestry? I've removed the category until someone provides one. JackO'Lantern 05:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Given his surname, he is clearly either of German or German-Jewish ancestry. And since he is a Calvinist, he has to have German ancestry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.153.221.249 (talk) 12:48, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Calvinism[edit]

Although Schrader was raised as a Calvinist, he has said that he no longer holds those beliefs. Is it proper to categorise him as a Calvinist?PhilipC

Is his renunciation of Calvinist principles verifiable? If it is, then I certainly think that that category should be removed. I wouldn't blame the man for not liking Calvinism if the article is correct in how it was presented to him as a child.--Eva db 06:27, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here's part of an interview at http://www.scifi.com/sfw/issue422/interview.html

Q:You were raised in a very religious household, with strict Calvinist beliefs.

Schrader: I certainly was raised to believe in a very real devil, a real Satan, and a real hell. Though I don't believe in the physical reality of those things anymore. But I still believe in their power as metaphors. And I certainly understand why they came into being as metaphors and their ongoing function in human psychology and in human spirituality. ... If I used any kind of inspiration, it's all of the religious intellectuals I was raised with, professors. Because when I went to Calvin College, which is a Dutch Calvinist college. My minor was theology. It had to be, everyone's minor was theology. PhilipC 10:25, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds pretty clear-cut to me. I think that it would be silly to list him as a Calvinist when he admits to believing the principles of Calvinism to be only metaphors. Thankfully, they've changed Calvin College since Schrader's day. My minor was Economics.--Eva db 11:14, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
