1920-1969: counts as an NFL Championship unless that team won a SB I-IV 1966-1969: AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships: I-IV 1960-1969: AFL Championships unless that team won a superbowl which would fall under the AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships 1970-present: Super Bowl Championships

• With all respect, you are putting way too much data in the Template:NFL team demo. Testing possible combinations on different NFL team articles (especially the short ones like Atlanta Falcons), and both 800x600 and 1024x768 monitors, the length screws up the formatting of the images on the articles, and the season-by-season table. • I see what you are saying. Thanks for taking my suggestions. As for in the future, we can keep the info boxes as they are now and maybe create something new in the article for retired numbers and hall of famers.

• Here's what I have been doing so far:
  • I am slowly adding data to the infobox, seeing how long in length they go. Another reason I want to do this is to get rid of those lists in the lead section because they really should not belong there.
  • I use to have all-time records in the infobox, but I removed them after a couple of weeks into the 2005 season. Only some of the articles were being updated to reflect the results of the recently completed games (by various users and anonymous IPs), but most of them were not, and I was just too busy to update them all by myself. I plan to put them back maybe sometime after the regular season is over (updated, of course, with the results of the 2005 season).
  • Yes, I am still having problems with the 1966-1970 AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships. It further complicates matters when Super Bowl III was really the first one to official be called the "Super Bowl". So you get sites like the Pro Football Hall of Fame listing the Jets Super Bowl championship and the 1968 AFL Championship seperately [1], but other sites like Sportsline.com, that only lists the AFL championship but not the Super Bowl win. AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships, revisited

I added two new parameters, no_pre1970sb_champs and pre1970sb_champs, to indicate on the Packers, Jets, and Chiefs articles that these Super Bowls were won prior to the AFL-NFL Merger. Using a template conditional formula, they will toggle a footnote message similar to the content on http://www.packers.com/history/championships/ that they include the pre-merger Super Bowl wins in the Packers 12 overall championships. I have revisited this idea and on the History of NFL Championships franchise page, I reworked the table. After the subject was brought up to me by an AFL advocate, it came to me that the first four Super Bowl champions were not league but indeed world champions. That means that the 12-time Green Bay Packer world champion motto is only in effect because they won the first two super bowls, had they lost one or both of them, their motto would have to be 12-time NFL Champion, which it also states on their website. What I am asking for is if someone who is an expert at this infobox create an optional option for a world championship list above the league, conference, and division championship section of the Championships section on the team box to be applied to the three world championship teams. --Happyman22 04:56, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Too much data

Retired Numbers

How about adding the option of placing retired numbers by the franchises in the info box, but making the feature optional so users can add it to each franchise if they wish. I would like to add it to the Chicago Bears article because as it looks now the article ends with too many tables and I believe will never achieve feature status if it looks like it looks now.

I do not agree for two reasons: Again, the infobox is a little too long as it is. But also, you open up the pandora's box with those teams such as the Ravens and Cowboys which do not officially retire jerseys, but do "retire" players into their Ring of Honor/Fame. Then you have caveats like the Bills, Dolphins, Bengals, Steelers, and the Lions that have some unofficially retired numbers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:43, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Besides, I am quite surprised about your concern about how the Chicago Bears ends - although I will admit I do not know what the current culture is on FAC. This was the version when Arsenal_F.C. was promoted. And this was the version when New England Patriots was promoted. Stylized uniform template

Notre Dame

I created {{American football uniform}}, to mirror {{Football kit}} (i.e., soccer uniform), {{baseball uniform}} and {{basketball kit}}. I think it would be great to add stylized uniforms to the team template, as is done here: {{Infobox football club}} and here {{Infobox baseball team}}, to give a visual representation of the team colors. Season links

• Why doesn't this template provide a link (at least) to the current and a handful of previous seasons?

• Many people would likely be checking when a player joined the team, what he did statistically last or in YEAR XXXX, or what the team did in a previous season against team xyz, etc. Hence, while unlettered and unlearned in the syntax to construct "2006 Pittsburgh Steeler season", they know how to reach "Pittsburgh Steelers" -- wherein we ought to make it easy to back link to the article covering said season.

• Note links provide one handed navigation for those of us who like to browse and read lying back Roman banquet style while watching the tube! Typing two handed while lying on one's side isn't easy (and may be impossible--I certainly can't do it! <g>) but is a fun and relaxed way of browsing.

• A sub-template of internal form Template:Catlist(edit talk links history) can be worked up given the earliest and final seasons as parameters, and do all the work... which would be presented as a set of links in table form by years end (e.g. 60 61 62 63 ... 07) and so forth similar to the calendar templates providing a nav boxed section so readers can navigate easily to the year of their interest.

• The same template can then be used to provide the same set of links on the season's template for a team, giving a random access capability to readers as well. // FrankB 14:09, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

The season links are not currently included primarily because this has been an infobox template, designed to present summary information about an article's subject, not a navigation template, providing a list of of links to several articles. The season links use to be on Template:New England Patriots and other similar navigation boxes, but were removed for some reason, [4] and then put on Template:New England Patriots seasons and others. Uniform Images

Hello. I am the Silent Wind of Doom, and I am the creator of the uniform images that are used by all of the MLB baseball pages, as can be seen in each team's infoboxes. Well, last night, I finally finished my latest project, creating uniform images in the same style for the NFL. Here's a sampling.

I would like to now add these to the infobox. On the Chicago Bears page, you can see that they use a different template (I'll fix that as I add them) and the formatting has already been done, so I can quickly move that over and everything will be taken care of. I would have done this all myself, but the page said to first mention it here for debate. Oddly enough, this would be the reason why I came by here. You might try Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League rather than the template talk page. Templates don't really get a lot of traffic, but the NFL wikiproject does. But in response to your question, I'm thinking the various current uniforms are an excellent idea for the template. General manager?

I think something needs to be done with this. Since each team has so may different executives/directors with many different roles, it's impossible to pin the title of "General Manager" on most teams, even those who have a GM. Helmet Logos

Adding a "current" parameter to {{NFL team}}

Anybody object to adding a "current" parameter to {{NFL team}}, similar to what is used on {{Infobox football club}}? For an example, see the bottom of the infobox for New York Red Bulls and the other MLS team articles. Adapt for other football leagues

I am trying to adapt this for semi pro football use, but when I do, I can't get 'National Football League' to change to 'Mid Continental Football League' and I can't get the colors right. Any help on how to modify for other leagues use? Rick lay95 (talk) 01:00, 14 May 2009 (UTC)rick_Lay95

This template has been already adapted to other versions like Template:United Football League (2009) team, Template:NIFL team, and Template:Afbn team. An adaption requires good working knowledge of editing templates. Template:NFL team in its current form is a very complex template, with advanced features and parser functions. And it uses other templates like Template:NFLPrimaryColor and Template:NFLSecondaryColor to help display the colors. However if you look at the template code carefully, links to some article like National Football League and List of Super Bowl champions are actually hard coded into the template. Adding the secondary colors

I meant to do this last year, but I have now started to add instances of {{NFLAltPrimaryColor}} here to also generate the secondary team colors that are also used on {{Infobox NFL player}}. Should have some consistency. The other reason is that the team articles are more high profile and noticeable than the player articles, so several users were unaware of the secondary colors and changed {{NFLPrimaryColor}} in such a way that the colors from both templates clashed. Remove recent add_colors

A recent edit introduced "add_colors", in nominal support of additional, minor (tertiary?) accent colors. In my view, this change is unwarranted as the primary colors are already sufficiently supported. In the common case, each team is showing 2~3 colors in the Infobox. This new functionality is supporting colors (if any) beyond each team's common colors. For example, in practice for the Seattle Seahawks, it was used for "Gray - for pattern color on numbers & helmet only" and "Blue - for pattern color on numbers only" per citation, resulted in 4th, 5th, and 6th colors appearing in the Infobox. For the Rams, it showed the retro Blue and Yellow from the Los Angeles era. Therefore, I have reverted this content change for Seattle and others. UW Dawgs (talk) 02:54, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

New parameter request

I would like to propose a parameter addition to this, one I am surprised doesn't exist. I would like to see a founder parameter. Since most teams are no longer owned by the person who started the team, I think it would be a good addition to the infobox.--Rockchalk717 23:14, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

I don't think it's a key point readers want to know when they visit a team article. Should definitely be somewhere in the body. Per WP:INFOBOXPURPOSE: "The less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance."—Bagumba (talk) 00:43, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

centering section headers

Would anybody be opposed to centering the text in the section headers in this template? Right now they are aligned to the left, but I think we need to be consistent with other league navboxes (NCAA, NBA, MLB, etc.) and center the text. If no one opposes, I'll be bold and center it.
