Although the official name of the island of Ceylon is Sri Lanka, in north and east provinces the name is not recognized - rather it is considered offensive. It is more appropriate to use the term Ceylon when mentioning aspecets of the Northern and Eastern parts of the island.

What a nonsense. The name of the whole Island is Sri Lanka. It's rather offensive to call Sri lanka ceylon, because Sri lanka is not a colony any more. Keep the LTTE propaganda away from Sri lanka section. Ceylonpedia (talk) 17:00, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
