Does anyone know how many cycloramas there are remaining?

The term 'cyclorama'[edit]

The term cyclorama needs clarifcation here. It's not accurate to say it was a 360-degree panorama, because all "great circle" panoramas from Barker's in 1796 to the present were 360-degree views. However, the quite different scrolling-view Moving Panorama was very popular in the mid-1800s, and so when "great circle" panoramas has a revival of their own in the latter part of the 19th century (post-1860), the term "cyclorama" was used to distinguish these from the scrolling-view panoramas of the day. Thes "cycloramas" were really just "panoramas," with often (but not always) the addition of false secenery, mannikins, etc. to amplify the effect of realism.

The surviving "cycloramas" use this name because it was more common in their time.

Disney's Circle-Vision 360°[edit]

I'd love to see a mention of Disney's Circle-Vision 360° as it relates to the evolution of the panorama, cyclorama, and moving panorama. --205.201.141.146 20:11, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

modern cyclorama style techniques[edit]

Quicktime VR movies are a similar concept, they allow the viewer to pan around a vrtual 360 degree image (or even a complete sphere). Perhaps worth a mention in the see also section or something. There's also this technology (yellow bird) that does the same thing with moving images.stib (talk) 04:56, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Surviving examples, Pleven Panorama[edit]

Salvete!

In the list the Pleven Panorama is said to be "also known as the panorama with the world's biggest canvas". In its own article the canvas is descibed with a size of "115×15-meter main canvas and 12-meter foreground". 115×15-meter is the same size the list states for the Borodino Panorama and the Racławice Panorama. And this is less than the 120*16 metres of the Stalingrad Battle Panorama - especially if the foreground is not an additional canvas (is it or is it not?), but a diorama or something like that. Well, what qualifies the Pleven Panorama as the record holder?
