Little Nemo

1271 – Crusades: The Knights Hospitaller surrendered the Krak des Chevaliers, a castle in present-day Syria, to the army of the Mamluk sultan Baybars.
1904 – France and the United Kingdom signed the Entente Cordiale, agreeing to a peaceful coexistence after centuries of intermittent conflict.
1911 – American cartoonist Winsor McCay released the silent short film Little Nemo (featured), one of the earliest animated films.
1933 – The Australian state of Western Australia voted to secede from the federation, but efforts to implement the result proved to be unsuccessful.
1973 – The Progress Party was founded in a movie theater in Oslo, Norway.

I just added the proposed April 8, 2005 wedding of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles. Any problems as it has not yet occurred and may not occur? ^demon

Grace Park (actress)[edit]

Grace Park the actress on Battlestar Galactica was born the same day (April 8, 1980) as Katee Sackhoff. This is from an interview with Katee Sackhoff on SciFi Talk. There is another Grace Park (the golfer) born March 6, 1979 and many web sites confuse the two (obviously doing a quick Google).

Hank Aaron breaks Babe Ruth's record in 1974[edit]

This event has been added and deleted several times. My reading of WP:DOY (not that it's actually official, but anyway) is that only current sports records belong. Other comments on this? -- Rick Block (talk) 02:58, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you expressed this opinion at WT:DOY? I think I agree that historically significant sports records should likely be included (e.g. first 4-minute mile, but this would be included under WP:DOY#Human accomplishments/social milestones), but first to break a long-standing record seems dubious. Do we include Ralph Boston's 1960 long jump breaking Jesse Owens's record from 1935? (no) or Mike Powell's current record breaking a long standing record set by Bob Beamon (no). I think the event of "breaking a long standing sports record" is worth considering (where "long standing" probably should be defined as greater than, e.g., 10 years), but we don't have a currently "blessed" guideline about this which mean we don't have any avenue to resolve this other than this talk page. Getting back to Aaron's accomplishment, I"m OK with including it if the general criteria includes "first to break a long-standing (greater than nn years) sports record". -- Rick Block (talk) 04:20, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Civil Rights Act[edit]

John Foxe[edit]

The entry for John Foxe's death (1587) is incorrect. It's April 18 (and already on the April 18 date page).

No Important Deaths from 2016 on????[edit]

It's amazing that absolutely no one of even moderate importance died on April 8 in the years 2016, 17, 18, 19 or 20. 5 year streak? Or laziness/no one really gives a fuck about editing this day anymore?
