The figures of Zaria and the Zorya, though probably related, seem to have substantially different connotations and imagery. I don't mind brief articles if we haven't gathered much information yet – I think it's more important that the information be specific and relevant. My vote would be don't merge. I see many english speakers here who don't even know a single slavic word and are arguing about one and the same word; Zorya, Zarya. It is simply a transliteration of this goddess in many slavic names; third name was Zora, 4th was Zorica. Her sister was Danica or Dana (evening dawn). 3rd sister was Severnica (northern star), this is Polaris. All 3 were daughters of goddess Lada (from here comes term "Lady", Ladushka; (v)Lada; ruler, Sir, noble young woman, Lads (in english) and all goddesses were depicted as white swans. In Vedas this goddess represented Sarasvati (here another transliteration of Zora/Zarya; Surya; Sura; Asura means "Against the sun"; and Svati represented a "white" swan; (svati; "bright, white" in Slavic, Sanskrit). In Celtic mythology this goddess represented Danu or Dana(she was also depicted as a white swan); "Dan", Daniti ("dawning"); Day in Slavic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.182.129.86 (talk) 09:26, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Status of a deity[edit]

Actually, Zaria or Zoria (it is the same word) is Slavic for dawn or (in Ukrainian, for example) star. So Morning Za(o)ria and Evening Za(o)rya are either Sunrise and Sunset or Morning Star and Evening Star (planet Venus). Za(o)rya or several of them were referred to in some legends and healing spells. So, firstly, it should be same article with "Zorya"; secondly, the word "personification" would fit better than "goddess". A lot of forces of nature were personified in Slavic folklore, but a god/goddess should have a cult and temples, and it isn't known if pagan Slavs really worshipped an idol of Dawn/Star. Anyway, these articles should be removed from the group "Major deities" in "Slavic mythology" template. --Aranelle (talk) 13:41, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
