Andy Mabbett has run out of copyright notices to serve and so now he is looking at deleting original material. Andy... Birmingham has been instrumental in dance music in the UK since the development of the mellotron, you obviously are not qualified enough to add mature comment to this article, there are only a handfull of UK cities that have contributed as much to Dance Music, Brum is most definately one of them. Following the pattern of articles like music of Manchester, I think this should be moved to "music of Birmingham". That's a broader topic, but that's fine, at least for now, since having a more general article scope will encourage people to add info on more diverse subjects. If necessary then, a subarticle could always be split out. In any case, dance shouldn't be capitalized. Tuf-Kat 08:15, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

• My passion for dance music is even greater than my passion for Birmingham. Many of the nights in the first paragraph were fun, but many of them are not of great significance. Many of the brum nights were copycat, viz God's Kitchen, Shaanti, Sundissential, Wobble (I thought wobble was a club not a night?) However -if you're looking at nights like Cream, Gatecrasher etc. then that's significant. I was just a nipper so I never went to them, but they are all important nights. However I thought Cream started in Manchester and I was certain GC began in Leeds? I could be wrong. In anycase there's an argument that Atomic Jam was pretty major too ... So perhaps 'influential' should go back in... Leonig Mig 12:47, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

    • Found a discussion here: [1] C.R.E.A.M. is nothing to do with Cream of Liverpool, so therefore is not of great significance. As for Gatecrasher, i'm not sure. I know one of the owners lives in Barnt Green, however when I used to go in Sheffield I was def. under the impression it began in Leeds. Leonig Mig 13:04, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Why is there more info about B'ham music in Arts in Birmingham...

...than in this article specifically about music from the city?

I propose moving all the music info from Arts in Birmingham here and linking from there and from the main Birmingham page. Thoughts? Valiantis 23:38, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Either that, or just getting rid of this page. It's typical of the problem we had a few months ago with Birmingham articles - certain people thinking they could boost the city's profile by duplicating material all over Wikipedia. I don't think the Arts in Birmingham page is so huge that it needs to have sections put into separate articles. A lot of it is just stupid lists of people, some with only tenuous connections to actual musical life in Brum (recent additions gleaned from here by the look of it). Just because a musician was born in the city doesn't mean they contributed to the city's music. --Brumburger 07:55, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

I can see why this was done but I'm going to re-fork the content and try and expand it into a proper article, along the lines of Art of Birmingham and Literature of Birmingham. Birmingham's music is internationally influential and has an extensive literature - it's easily notable enough to have a substantial article of its own. JimmyGuano (talk) 07:52, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
