Ian Curtis[edit]
In the video for the song The Perfect Kiss, there is an image of a shadowy figure projected on the back of a door in the studio (towards the end of the vid). Any guesses as to who this is? Ian Curtis filmed at a happier time and put in this video?
- To answer the above question, I believe that this person was a friend / associate of the band, who also happened to have a decent physical resemblance to Curtis. His inclusion in the video is more or less meant to represent Curtis (or his spirit, perhaps) looking on approvingly at his former bandmates as they belt out (IMHO) their finest masterpiece.
- Someone removed the reference to Ian Curtis standing in the doorway as speculation, and there's no citations in place to indicate that it was supposed to be symbolic of him; unless we can find a citation, shouldn't we remove the "dimly lit figure" bit, since the meaning will be lost on those who don't know about it being representative of Curtis? --PeanutCheeseBar 16:26, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- I just removed the reference to Ian Curtis standing in the doorway again. Someone has put it back in since it was last removed, but it is pure speculation. Unless someone can produce a quote from someone involved in making the video saying this was the director's intention, it should come out of the article. Most likely, the figure is someone involved with the band, record company, or video production team, simply watching the performance (we can see other people in the background, too; are these also "references"?). In any case, the figure doesn't look like Curtis. Without the mention of the so-called "Curtis figure", the "references to JD" sentence becomes very thin (merely mentioning a poster of JD on the wall), so I removed that, too, as on its own, it's hardly remarkable.--ABW —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.20.242.229 (talk) 10:48, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- Sigh - someone put the reference to Curtis back in: "The video prominently features a Joy Division poster for 'Unknown Pleasures', and a black and white projection of Ian Curtis stood in a doorway". Let's look at what is actually in the video: it's someone standing in a doorway. I suppose it could be an intentional reference to Curtis, but the burden of proof is on the person making the positive assertion - in other words, the contributor must give the reasons why he or she thinks the person standing there is meant to be Curtis? Unless the contributor can give a proper citation (e.g. an interview with a band member, or the director of the video) that it's meant to be, or represent, Curtis, then the reference shouldn't be there.
