I decided to edit this page so as to make it more brief, without losing any substance. There are too many animal examples, and bizaare phrases. I think this might have been taken directly out of a book. Anyway, if anybody thinks I am being biased, tell me. I am doing my best to remain fair. I'm doing quite a good job at this. I don't think anybody will oppose my work: I've made the standard Gnostic nonsense lingo into something understandable! I deserve an emmy or something =p. Glorthac (talk) 05:49, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It was taken out of a book. I am a little surprised that it's lasted as long as it has—I originally intended to trim it down myself, but I was kind of daunted by the length of the article and was hoping that someone else would take a crack at it. So, thank you. Kramden (talk) 06:44, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

re: "The sect's doctrines were apparently inspired by Jewish Kabbalism"

Kabbalism as a brand of Jewish mysticism is significantly younger than the Basilideans. Does this "fact" have a citation?

No, that was an error. Now rectified. -- Necrothesp 00:55, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Article contradicts itself[edit]

Earlier on, the article says the crucifixion was necessary according to the Basilideans. Later, it follows the accusation of Ireneaus and the brief passage from a Sethian (not a Basilidean) text in saying they believed Simon of Cyrene died in Christ's stead whilst he laughed. Which one is it? 74.141.69.51 (talk) 00:12, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

First one is from Hippolitus while second is from Ireneaus. These Fathers don't explain about Basilideans on identically just as it is said earlier in the article — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.172.233.105 (talk) 00:40, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Extensive Uncited Summary[edit]

It seems that much of this article is, at present, wholesale and possibly biased summary. Maybe even original research? 171.103.149.26 (talk) 01:49, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
