A simpler definition?[edit]

An operator T∈L(V) is called self-adjoint iff T = T*.

Well, that's what my linear algebra book thinks. Goodralph 01:26, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Well, it's less general than the definition given in the article, since L(V) is a star-algebra and T*, the adjoint of T, is the image of T under the involution (or "star operation"). The definition you gave should probably be added as this may well be what lots of people are looking for. Lupin 23:01, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Thanks, needed a little confidence from someone else. Goodralph 17:22, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)
