Division casualites in Iraq[edit]

Does somebody knows how many 4th Infantry Division soldiers were killed in Iraq ?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.161.27.52 (talk • contribs) 01:26, 19 September 2004.

OIF 1 took the lives of 80 Ironhorse Soldiers and 1 civilian. All 81 names are embedded on plaques surrounding the 4ID OIF Memorial near the 4ID Division Museum. OIF 05-07 took a greater toll. 227 Ironhorse Soldiers lost their lives to protect a free Iraq. SGT B 17:11 17 April 2007

I served with the 3Bn, 12th Infantry, 4th ID in Vietnam, `69-70, and served in the USAR until 1996. This is the first time in almost 40 years I have run across the 4th Infantry Division referred to as "Flower Power Fourth," which just sounds inventively hokey and juvenile. Capturing Saddam Hussein!?!??![edit]

I took out the part where 4th ID captured Saddam Hussein. Sorry guys, not to destroy your ego, but we all know who was there. I changed to providing perimeter security for Special Operations Forces, while in fact thats a long stretch considering Rangers provided perimeter security for JSOC, and 4th ID provided some kind of security to the security element. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.101.176.248 (talk) 17:18, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the 4ID 1st BCT had elements either surrounding that area, or blocking access to it. Units from 4ID that were heavily involved included 1/22 IN, 4/42 FA, and 299 EN. While there is no doubt that TF 121 and SF did all the action, 4ID was very much there and involved, and had been for months prior as well. Initial deployment to Vietnam[edit]

Are there any people here who were with the 4th when it first deployed to Vietnam? I heard from an ex-Marine that subsequently joined the Army (who was also in Vietnam at the time), said that when the 4th deployed to Vietnam, somebody in supply had screwed up big-time, as they arrived in country with nothing but blanks, and they had to stay in the rear for almost two months before they received their full supply of real ammo. A funny anecdote if true and verifiable, but of course THAT won't be recorded on any official Army site. :^) wbfergus 20:42, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2006 deployment to Iraq[edit]

Primarily a summary of the deployment; what BCTs controlled what areas/cities, the two BCTs that were task-org'd to 101st, and important operations carried out by 4th ID units during the deployment, and hopefully a source or two to support it all. Fires Brigade also include 1-21 FA?[edit]

I see on this page at Ft. Hood also lists the 1st Battalion, 21st Field Artillery as part of the Fires Brigade. Any reason it is not listed on the Units list here? --Petercorless 13:34, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fiasco[edit]

Just to say that there is no mention in the article of the very heavy criticisms levelled at the counter-insurgency operations conducted by the 4th ID, 2003-4 in Iraq under the command of Odierno, documented e.g. in Thomas Ricks book Fiasco: the American Military Adventure in Iraq (2006). In the context of the whole article I am actually in two minds about it. Maybe compared to the 4th ID helping to win WW1 and WW2, the Iraq unpleasantness 2003-4 is fairly trivial. 4th ID insignia patch[edit]

I'm new to 4th this is my first year. I'm preparing for deployment in August. My NCO's have been quizing us on regulations and asking us what each particular item stands for or it's significance. Can any one help me I searched but the only info I got was not exactly what I need to know. So 4ID is known as the IVY division, a play on the roman numeral 4. The patch is representative of that moniker-Source found in the article!Cstewwy (talk) 04:42, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Commercialism[edit]

What is the Wikipedia policy regarding external links whose only purpose seemingly is to draw business to a commercial website, in this case www.combatreels.com? I've no doubt that the DVDs are interesting to many people, but there is no information on that site that isn't carried in the Wikipedia article itself. Seems kind of inappropriate to me. Armored Brigade versus Heavy Brigade[edit]

There seems to be some mixed signals in the Army community regarding the use of Heavy Brigade Combat Team (HBCT) versus ABCT (which could mean Airborne BCT or Armored BCT). All the literature I could find up to 2012 was using the term HBCT. There is a letter from the Commanding General of the maneuver center requesting a change from HBCT to ABCT, but I can't find anything that officially made the change. If you look at various HBCT/ABCT websites there is are varying uses of both the terms, including in some cases using both terms on the same site. Has there been any official documentation specifying this change or was it one taken internally by the relevant brigades?Kintrix (talk) 06:10, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The current correct nomenclature is ABCT, an airborne brigade combat team is now represented as IBCT and can be further distinguished as IBCT (A) [1]. From what I can tell by looking at documents containing both nomenclatures, the transition occurred sometime around 2012-2013 time frame [2]. Cstewwy (talk) 04:59, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
