  • Abstain with comment Keep: It was founded in 1878, making it quite old by Australian standards. More importantly, it's a Jesuit school, and Jesuit schools (elite private schools generally, but Jesuit schools uniquely too) are known for tending to produce notable alumni.   • Abstain. Thanks for the note, Samaritan. Xavier is notable. It's one of the leading elite private schools in my state, and has a long history. (Lovely buildings, too) That said, I believe in a higher bar for articles like these. If it's kept, there's every chance one of us Australians will do our thing and fix it up, but that may not happen, and it's unlikely to be expanded on its own. Ambi 23:43, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • The article is bad at the moment, but I know that Xavier is notable. It has has a long tradition of producing Australian Football League players (I'd wager there are more graduates of Xavier running around the AFL than from any other school). For that reason alone I think there's no doubt it has many famous graduates, which seems to be a criteria that applies to schools. So I say keep. Shane King 00:12, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)

  • Abstain with comment: Xavier is, IIRC, the elite Catholic boys school in Melbourne (only a true snob school could get away with the outrageous fees, and the terms on which they must be paid). It's not quite as famous as Geelong Grammar, Scotch, or Melbourne Grammar, but it's up there. Article is crap in present form, though..--Robert Merkel 04:20, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete, unless somebody can edit the article to detail some seriously notable alumni. I'm from Melbourne too, and to my knowledge, Xavier is just another private school and not notable at all. Unless somebody can prove that some very notable people attended this school (and by notable, I don't just mean some footy players - unless by which you're referring to very historically famous players!), rather than just speculating that somebody must have because it's such a snotty school, I say scratch it with the rest of the attempted high school articles. - Vaelor 04:26, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • There you go, a list of alumni for you. I didn't even resort to listing footballers. The number of red links reflects more on the poor state of Australian content on wikipedia than the notability of those people. :( Shane King 06:25, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)
      • Hmm well, I suppose the fact that they're all sportspeople or politicians says more about Australian culture overall than the quality of Xavier's alumni. It's still a fairly long list though, which I'd imagine is rare for one Melbourne school, so for what little it's probably worth in the face of the otherwise almost unanimous Keep, I retract my Delete in favor of an Abstain pending article improvement. =) The article itself still kinda sucks, and as somebody said previously, unless we can guarantee that somebody will pick up this project and work on it, its still going to suck if we vote to keep it... - Vaelor 12:52, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Strong Keep: the school has a long history, is more than well known amongst Melburnians, I'm sure has plenty of notable alumni - there would be plenty to write about; it just hasn't been written yet. I do agree that your average school isn't notable enough, but not every school needs to be deleted—Xavier is amongst a group of Australian schools that I believe are very significant.   • Keep: just because the article has little useful content (aside from an Alumni list) doesn't mean it should be deleted, in fact it means it should be expanded. It certainly is article worthy. Perhaps it is a candidate for Oz Collab of the Week?
