  • Should Jamiroquai be mentioned? Lead singer Jay Kay is famous for wearing adidas clothing and especially adidas shoes, ever since the group began, and in nearly every music video. 24.108.153.22 06:48, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
  • It's important to state that they own TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company, one of the biggest golf manufacturer in the world (750M). [User:Snappper55] 14 Nov 2005
  • It's a popular saying, but I think the all day i dream about sex line is a bit tacky and uneeded eh? it would probably be a better article without it. Should I delete it? (Unsigned comment by Fullerton (talk · contribs))
No. It's probably the most universal adidas lore there is, even if you think it's a little tacky. (Unsigned comment by 82.9.173.226 (talk · contribs))
According to Adidas.com, the "flower" is the emblem of Adidas Originals (the clothing branch) and the triangle is the emblem of Adidas Performance (the sports branch). Aecis 8 July 2005 20:31 (UTC)

Galatasaray

Galatasaray's kit sponsor is Umbro

Sorry, it WAS Umbro, but Galatasaray turned back to the three stripes last season.217.68.50.10 06:08, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

  • Pronunciation: Please help settle an argument! Is it correctly pronounced "uh-DEE-duss", or "ODDY-dahs"?
  • Since the name comes from the founder Adi Dassler, the "correct" pronounciation in theory is "AH-dee-DASS" though "uh-DEE-duss" is so common it might as well be the correct way to say it. --Dan 06:24, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
  • I've heard "uh-DEE-duss" is a common pronunciation in North America, but in most of Europe "Adidas" is actually pronounced "AH-dee-DASS" usually.

Stade Rennais

this team is off adidas right now and wearing Airness

That ADIDAS "Pot Leaf, flower" logo is actually called the trefoil logo and is actually copyrighted unlike their 3 stripes.

Tunisia

Does Tunisia wear adidas? Don't they use Puma??

Capitalization

Is the lowercase first letter for the logo or the name in general talk?? Georgia guy 18:01, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Certainly the first letter of sentences of should be capitalized. Nohat 03:43, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
It's adidas! Except in the first letter of any sentences.Ruennsheng 06:28, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks), Section 2, rule 1: "Lowercased trademarks with no internal capitals should always be capitalized". Nohat 20:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Cody

"...who started producing shoes in the 1920s in Herzogenaurach near Nuremberg with the help of his fellow friend Cody." Who is this... Cody... person? Rudolf Dassler, perhaps? [Puma!] Maeglin Lómion 00:20, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

NBA/WNBA apparel deal

The segment about Adidas becoming the new outfitter of the NBA/WNBA/D-League most definitely needs to be referenced. This comes as a bit of a surprise, even though I did know that Reebok was purchased by Adidas. As an employee of the NBA D-League, I have heard nothing about the change in brand. Reebok alone pours tons of money into the league, so this new development is quite startling.Eric 04:23, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

However, the reebok deal to adidas was final. Sjsharksrs 08:58, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Copyright violation / Trademark violation

Dear Editors,

my name is Barbara Gauß. I was born in Germany in 1970 an travelled the world with my familly. For many years we lived in several arabic countries. I am a self employed German Artist and writer.

Since 1998 this German Company is violating my Intellectual Property and Trademark rights!

Former Friends of mine and employees of this company are of the opinion, that they have the right to take my artworks - also in the field of Marketing - for free, disregarding my legal rights.

I would like to suggest two ways of handling this matter:

1. Either you accept the entry of my specific matter and the definition of my personal name or

2. You delete worldwide all slogans 'all day i dream about .... sport/sports/soccer/football/sex ... etc. - respectively 'all day i dream about soccer', 'all day i dream about sport', 'all day i dream about sports', 'all day i dream about sex' from your wikipedia pages due to copyright infringement and trademark violation.

Yours sincerely

Barbara Gauß

I am responding to the {{helpme}}. Keep in mind Wikipedia:No legal threats, it's a very important policy in Wikipedia. About your deleted article, bring it up with the deleting admin: User:RHaworth. I can't see a copyright violation in this article, but perhaps you would like to email Wikipedia about that: [1].--Commander Keane 06:51, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
As far I am concerned, the articles were deleted because they were unencyclopedic - totally uninteresting and non-notable. Sorry to be blunt. -- RHaworth 08:31, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Dear RHaworth, as far as you are concerned, I supose it is a matter of your disinformation respectively lack of information on the topic mentioned above.

Sincerely, Barbara Gauß (13:15, 26 April 2006 (UTC))

Please translate the above into English (if it is worth saying). -- RHaworth 17:59, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Oh, if I was mistaken, I did not know, that English is the only language you speak. I expected more effort of you - the man with the 'star'!Helenaparis (10:24, 27 April 2006 (UTC))

Bold text== Adidas or adidas == I've added the lowercase template to the article, based on the company's logo being lowercased letters, and because adidas's web site, has "adidas" not "Adidas". Through out the article the company name adidas is spelt with a capital letter. Should they be switched to lowercase? The Genesis 05:27, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

No. Please see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks), which says "Lowercased trademarks with no internal capitals should always be capitalized". Nohat 07:44, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. The Genesis 17:43, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
I don't see why you removed the lowercase tag, the proper name of the article should be "adidas". The Genesis 22:29, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
If I may point you to: Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(technical_restrictions)#Lower_case_first_letter The Genesis 22:31, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
The proper name of the article is "Adidas", with a capital A, as we are writing an encyclopedia article about a proper noun, and proper nouns are capitalized in English. The lowercase a is just a marketing gimmick. Nohat 22:36, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
What about EBay then? The Genesis 22:38, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) says "Lowercased trademarks with no internal capitals should always be capitalized". This is like "adidas". It also says "Lowercased trademarks with internal capitals do not need to be capitalized if the second letter is capitalized". This is like "eBay". Nohat 23:02, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
That works for me. Thanks for explaining. :) The Genesis 23:15, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Cheers! :-) Nohat 23:24, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Name

A common backronym expansion for the name Adidas is "All Day I Dream About Sports (or Soccer)." The company has in fact used the slogan on some of its apparel.

POV tag

I see nothing on this page nor edit histories indicating a present POV dispute. I'm removing the tag - feel free to add it back if I've missed something Ronnotel 04:18, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Pronunciation

I noticed Americans (and Germans I presume) usually say /aˈdidəs/ with the stress on the 2nd syllable, but here in Australia I'm used to hearing /ædiˈdæs/ (which rhymes with "gas"). Is anyone else familiar with the latter pronunciation? Rasen 14:33, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Well here in the UK it is the latter pronuciation (addy-daz) that is the most popular with anyone saying "ah-de-daz" getting heckled. I'm not sure but from my experience i think it's only American's that say "ah-de-daz" as i've personnally heard a German friend call it "addy-daz". Maybe we can get an German to tell us how they say it. Meep —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.225.179.62 (talk) 16:53, 9 May 2007 (UTC).

Skateboarding

If anyone hasen't noticed, Adidas has made it into skateboarding with sponsoring Mark Gonzales, Tim O'Connor, Dennis Busenitz and Dave Bachinsky.

Upgraded from start-class due to comprehensive nature. However, needs a footnotes section and some more organization ... still too many disparate list-type stuff. Daniel Case 03:08, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
