Aren't there also non-electrical dosimeters that use something akin to photographic film? They wouldn't be able to be read directly, because the film would have to be developed and its opacity measured. -- Arteitle 12:02 20 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Yes, but I believe the radiation "develops" the film itself, but I'm not 100% sure. It's like the old daguerrotype-film things where radiation would causse the film plate to develop, it's a smilar kind of behavior with dosimeters like this. Dysprosia 12:09 20 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Page is too specific to a particular type of dosimeter

There are a *lot* of other dosimeters out there in addition to the type described here. TLD (thermoluminescent dosimeters) are used for low-level exposure, film badges, and various scintilallator-counter devices. I stuck a paragraph at the end about film badge dosimeters a while ago, but there isn't too much to say about them. It would make sense to separate the article into subheadings by dosimeter type so that it isn't just missed down there, particularly if more types are added. --Arteitle 15:35, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

Recharging

The article says dosimeters must periodically be recharged. Does this mean they use a rechargable battery? Surely recharging must refer to something else, right? I was under the impression that the only purpose of the recharger was to zero the dosimeters. Can someone please clarify this for me? Thank you. Jecowa 11:57, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Multiple edit links

On my browser there are a trio of edit links visible at the bottom of the article. I've just popped into edit mode to tidy them up but I'm stumped, I can't see why they're there or indeed how to get rid of them.

Hopefully a more experienced/competent Wikipedian than me will have the answer. Cheers!

It's not a solution, but the explanation is here: "Do not stack more images within a section than the text as this causes the images to continue into the next section and bunches up the edit links in some browsers". --Old Moonraker (talk) 21:34, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

The fibre dosimeter image in the lede ... with a caption that says "Fibre dosimeter, the scale image is displayed below in the gallery" and its caption can read "Scale image of the fibre dosimeter shown above". 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 10:11, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

The entire section on Geiger tube dosimeters needs rewriting.

No matter how many corrections I make to the author's awful grammar and communication, I can't fundamentally fix it. Since I am not a nuclear engineer and don't understand how they work, this responsibility sadly falls on somebody else.
