Add to Myths section - his cremated ashes were put in the air conditioning system at Heathrow Airport[edit]

(Supposedly his mother was trying to smuggle heroin in the ashes at Heathrow Airport in London but disposed of them in the air conditioning system before being searched when fearing that she had been rumbled).

So that widely told tale can presumably added to the Myths After Death section - http://brooklynbugle.com/2014/10/07/what-happens-to-sids-ashes-lets-ask-john-lydon/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.16.72.221 (talk) 15:48, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Birth name[edit]

Sid's birth name was Simon John Ritchie - not the oft-reported "John Simon Ritchie" - and this can be easily confirmed by viewing his birth certificate, which is available widely online, including at this lin; https://outlawjimmy.com/outlaws/too-fast-to-live/ It would be nice if Wikipedia would stop ill-informed vandals from "correcting" this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.201.61.202 (talk) 05:15, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. But with respect, 'Ill informed vandals' is not a nice thing to call us, Mr User. We cite 'verifiable sources' - I use that in quotes because what can you do when the whole world calls this guy 'John Simon Ritchie' like the Sex Pistols official site - to clear up the "confusion over Sid's name". https://www.sexpistolsofficial.com/bio/sid-vicious/ He also appears somehow to have two surnames, the other being Beverley. But thanks for citing the birth certificate. Thelisteninghand (talk) 20:31, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The "Beverley" surname comes from his mother remarrying when he was a child and him adopting his stepfather's surname prior to being christened "Sid Vicious" by Lydon. Either way, despite what the Sex Pistols' website says, it has been firmly established that Vicious' birth name was Simon John Ritchie, and not John Simon. The birth certificate confirms this, and so does Lydon in his 2014 memoir, "Anger Is An Energy" where on page 51, he writes "His real name was Simon, but he never liked it, so he was using his other one, John." In addition, he is referred to as "Simon" in every single interview his mother, Anne Beverley, gave during her lifetime, and in her book, "The Sid Vicious Family Album". The "John Simon Ritchie" name originated from a NYPD police report typo after Sid was arrested for Nancy's murder, and the Associated Press ran with it. Considering there is so much definitive proof out there that his legal birth name was "Simon John Ritchie" in the form of his official UK birth certificate, Lydon's memoir, and Sid's mother's book, this should be enough for Wikipedia to make this the default, despite what misinformed people believe by default due to the American press misreporting it. 216.201.29.14 (talk) 21:22, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nazi imagery[edit]

Sid’s status is somewhat up for debate in the punk community as to whether he should be thought of as an “authentic” punk. This is because punk is often associated with left wing politics and Sid’s use of Nazi imagery has left some questioning him and his ideals. 75.134.234.52 (talk) 17:25, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
