Removed PitchFork review[edit]

If you read the review you see they reviewed "Fashion Nugget" not Prolonging the Magic. A mistake on their part in labeling. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.246.197.222 (talk) 05:48, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Should there be some mention of the different versions?[edit]

This album appears to have been altered in reissues for some reason, the version you can find on streaming now has at least three of the tracks altered, including "Sheep Go to Heaven" which is decreased in length by nearly a minute. There doesn't appear to be any mention of this in the tracklist (it lists the original track length only) - is there a way to incorporate this? There are two or three versions of this album[edit]

There are at least two very different versions of this album. The original version was released by Capricorn. A later version was released by Volcano/Zomba. The second release features edits and an alternate version of track 9, Hem of Your Garment.

Track lengths of the second, Volcano/Zomba release:

Satan Is My Motor (3:12); Mexico (3:26); Never There (2:44); Guitar (3:40); You Turn the Screws (4:00); Walk On By (3:36); Sheep Go to Heaven (3:48); When You Sleep (3:58); Hem of Your Garment (3:35); Alpha Beta Parking Lot (3:30); Let Me Go (3:29); Cool Blue Reason (3:27); Where Would I Be? (3:53)

Track 5, You Turn the Screws, is shortened by 12 seconds.

Track 7, Sheep Go to Heaven, is shortened by 57 seconds.

Track 9, Hem of Your Garment, is an alternate version, 9 seconds shorter, with different guitar, vocal, and effect takes.

Track 11, Let Me Go, is shortened by 27 seconds.

The shorter tracks are noticeable. The alternate track is jarring, as the lower volume of the vocal track does not align with the rest of the album. I'm not about to was poetic about which version is better, but it should be recorded here that the two versions are markedly different. It is not simply a matter of "Satan" in a track title or an "Explicit" warning—four of the tracks have been altered since the original Capricorn release.

For all I know, the release featuring an "Explicit" warning may be exactly the same as the original Capricorn version. I do not own it, so I cannot report, otherwise.

The only "obscene" word on any version of the album is hell. Some suggest the "Explicit" label is added to warn of the biblical "Satan." Satan is My Motor had been changed to Motor on some releases, but not all. The Volcano/Zomba release I own is clearly a re-release, as described above, and does not feature the "Explicit" warning.

Actually, there are three or more versions of this album, some the track changes described, above, and those with or without the "Explicit" label. The confusion is all the more reason to update this entry. G33Z3R (talk) 12:21, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I believe they replaced "Sheep Go to Heaven" with the single edit for some reason (the length matches up). --ForeverStamp (talk) 22:22, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
