Reactionary hedonistic?[edit]
Twice in this brief article, the word "reactionary" is used to describe or modify something (elements; phenomena) that are also labeled "hedonistic". I find this usage a bit odd or unusual, since hedonism is usually associated with liberalism or at least "decadence/sin", whereas "reactionary" is almost always associated with extreme conservatism or conservative backlash. I could maybe see using the word "reactive" as being more appropriate, but it probably needs even more work than that. How was their hedonism reactionary? Did it seek to return to a previous state or condition of things, or was it merely a backlash against a hated oppression? 173.16.124.196 (talk) 09:41, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- I believe this person did use those words too many times, but he was referring to the fact that because of the restrictions on social interactions, hedonistic pastimes became the "reaction" of the people, much like a rebellious child will "react" to a strict parent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmannc3 (talk • contribs) 03:39, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
