Untitled[edit]

What is meant by "Chris Barrie is thought to have been the only member of the Red Dwarf cast to be 'legit' (or a real actor) by original Kryten actor, David Ross."? That sentence is rather confusing. Was Chris Barrie the only actor in RD cast by Ross? Dysprosia 11:19, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)

The original wording (from the edit history) is Chris Barie is thought to have been the only 'legit' member (or legitimate actor) among the Red Dwarf cast by original Kryten actor, David Ross! - which I take to mean that Chris Barrie was the only member to the Red Dwarf cast who David Ross considered to be a 'real actor'.
Why it should matter what Ross thinks, I have no idea. —Paul A 00:33, 5 Sep 2003 (UTC)
It's mentioned in the audio commentary for one of the DVD's. I personally think it's quite amusing that Chris Barrie is the only actor that he thought was professional, compared to the others. Although maybe this little titbit would be best placed in the main Red Dwarf article? - Ferretgames 12:23, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

the 'legit' story is told on *many* of the commentaries. However, being mentioned many times on DVDs still doesn't really mean it's worth mentioning on this page -Dave

at some point in the mid 80s, he auditioned for the part of "gordon collins" in "brookside"; he would've become the second actor in the role, after the character had been absent for a couple of years, but our casting director sent him away, saying he was far too talented to be in a soap.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood, etc.[edit]

Besides doing the Reagan and Prince Charles voices on the FGTH records, Barrie also appears - bizarrely - as Jim Callaghan on the Art of Noise track "Close-Up" (a mutated 12" version of "Close (to the Edit)"). Years active[edit]

it says 1987 - present. What is this based on? He was in the Young Ones, which ended several years before 1987. I can find out the specific episode if you like? He was a captain on a boat. Scar[edit]

Have you noticed the scar on Chris's right cheek? It's most obvious in Red Dwarf 8 but you can see it in the first series as well (if you squint). Any idea where it came from?

DTech[edit]

I Graduated yesterday morning from Loughborough University, and in my programme it said that on Friday 16th July 2010 Chris Barrie would be given an honorary degree - DTech - "In recognition of his promotion of Engineering to the general public". This didn't happen in the morning ceremony, so I can only assume that if it did happen it was in the afternoon ceremony. I can see nothing on the graduation site, although if one were to watch the video, this could be confirmed. Is he English?[edit]

Looking at the list of categories at the bottom of the article, all of them refer Barrie as being English. However he was born in Germany and schooled in Northern Ireland. According to the biography on his official site, it clearly states, "After moving to London from his native Northern Ireland…" which would suggest that Barrie self-identifies as Northern Irish and should therefore be included in Northern Irish categories. I think "native" might be suggesting that he lived in Northern Ireland at the time. His mother is definitely English; I remember there being such a source somewhere, but I cannot remember where it is for now. Spitting Image[edit]

Should there be more about his work on Spitting Image? It was a very popular show as I recall, yet here it's only mentioned in the lead paragraph. Which characters did he voice? etc. --82.40.89.223 (talk) 04:11, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you look on the IMDB page he was in most of the first 11 series, voicing everyone from Neil Kinnock to Ronald Reagan to George Bush I to Robin Day to Graham Taylor. He was also on quite a few tracks from the 20 Golden Gobs Album (he has a pretty distinctive voice and is hard to miss).
