Someone should translate this paragraph to English. I would except that I don't know what they're trying to say. "As a result, in June 2008, Acheng District, Harbin, the Harbin Science and Technology Vocational College list Manchu language into a major. It's the first vocational school who teach Manchu language as a major in China. That means Manchu language is no longer a professional. I actually just fixed that paragraph up, but have noticed that most of the article after that point is written with poor English grammar, as many Chinese who learn English are wont to use. The Manchu language is not the only extant representative of the Tungusic branch of the "Altaic" family. The Tungusic languages are traditionally grouped into a Northern branch, formed by Evenk (10.000), Even (7.000), Neghidal (150) and Solon (15.000), and a southern one, formed by Udehe (500), Oroch (150), Ulch (1.100), Orok (60), Nanai (6.000) and Manchu with Sibo(10.000): the fomer 5 languages form the Amur subbranch, while the later two form the Manchu subbranch. Sibe is simply an innovative dialect of the Manchu language. There are still a small and dwindling number of elderly people in northeastern China who speak other Manchu dialects as well, such as the dialects of Aigun, Sanjiazi, Siji, etc. --149.159.143.48 17:47, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
The section on grammar is so frightfully inaccurate that it should be removed until someone can write something new. There are at most six cases in Manchu (Nominative, Accusative, Genitive (=Instrumental), Dative (=Locative), Ablative and Prolative (debated)). The other "cases" listed are mostly non-productive derivational suffixes, a few of which may have originated as case markers in an earlier stage of the language, but are now fossilized. Some of the "cases" listed do not occur in Manchu at all, (such as the "indef. ablative", "in. accusative", "translative"), and the suffixes given for these are not listed in any Manchu grammar I have ever seen. --140.247.10.171 21:36, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Windows supports[edit]

Should be separate words[edit]

History[edit]
There is no explanation on how the Jurchen/Manchus, who knew how to write with Jurchen script since the Jin dynasty, became illiterate during the Ming dynasty and had to come up with the new Manchu script. This has to be filled in, because the reader is basically told that the Jurchen knew how to write in their own script, and later the Jurchen/Manchu were always illiterates before they copied mongolian script.Rund Van (talk) 04:09, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Based on the earlier work published in the 47th year of Kanghsi (1708), "Mirror of the Manchu language, by the Emperor" ᡥᠠᠨ ᡳ ᠠᡵᠠᡥᠠ ᠮᠠᠨᠵᡠ ᡤᡳᠰᡠᠨ ᡳ ᠪᡠᠯᡝᡴᡠ ᠪᡳᡨᡥᡝ Ghan i aragha Manchu kisun i pulek'u pitghe. III. Collection of the Manchu 清文彚書 ᠮᠠᠨᠵᡠ ᡳᠰᠠᠪᡠᡥᠠ ᠪᡳᡨᡥᡝ Manchu isapugha pitghe, a Manchu-Chinese dictionary, in which the words are arranged in order of the Manchu syllables. Published at Peking, divided into twelve chapters, author is Le Lingchi and he states in his preface, dated in the 13th year of Chienlûng, A. D. 1750, that he compiled it from the Imperial Manchu-Chinese Dictionary published under the superintendence of Kang-hsi. It is incomplete since new words collected by Chienlûngand published in his edution of the Imperial Dictionary are wanting. In the "Collection of the Manchu", the MAnchu word stands first, followed by the definition in the Chinese language alone. No attempt is made to give the pronunciation of the Manchu word in Chinese characters. IV. Supplemental Collection of the Manchu 清文補彚 ᠮᠠᠨᠵᡠ ᡤᡳᠰᡠᠨ ᠪᡝ ᠨᡳᠶᡝᠴᡝᠮᡝ ᡳᠰᠠᠪᡠᡥᠠ ᠪᡳᡨᡥᡝ Manchu kisun pe niyech'eme isapugha pitghe. This work is a supplement to the previous work, with similar arrangement. The author was E-hsing, also called E-kwei-pu, a member of the imperial family, and a vice-president of one of the Boards. His preface is dated in the 51st year of Chienlûng, A. D. 1786, and says that this work contains upwards of 7900 words, not in the original "Collection", all of the additional words are either taken from Chienlûng's edition of the Imperial Dictionary, particularly the four Supplemental chapters,or from books published under Imperial superintendence. V. Dictionnaire Tartare-Mantchou François, par M. Amyot. Published in Paris in three quarto volumes in 1789-1790, contains the Manchu words and phrases of the "Collection of the Manchu" with a translation of the Chinese explications into Frenc. No attempt was made to improve on the original. VI. Grammaire Tartare-Mandchou, par M. Amyot. A translation of a grammar in Latin by P. Gerbillon, publihsed in Paris in 1696. Teaching[edit]
Under the heading "Teaching" a certain amount of repetition is appearing.
IMHO the sentence:
"However this was in 1849, and more research should be done on the current teaching methods used in the PRC." looks really like trolling from some PRC nationalist or something and should be removed. It is stating the obvious and is not counterfactual to anything being said before. The paragraph already clearly states the date of the previous text that is even a quote, so it is really already very clear that an old text is being quoted and that it might not be actual. The best would be to remove the sentence and expand with a section/paragraph on how the language is thought now in PRC considering that it is a *second language* teaching and not anymore a first language like in 1849. This naturally makes the modern method approach obviously different.

Xibe is not "identical" to Manchu[edit]
> Although the Xibe language, with 40,000 speakers, is in almost every respect identical to Manchu, Xibe speakers, who live in far western Xinjiang, are ethnically distinct from Manchus.
This is nonsense and conflicts with the Xibe language article which says:
> Xibe is mutually intelligible with Manchu,[5] although unlike Manchu, Xibe is reported to have eight vowel distinctions as opposed to the six found in Manchu, as well as differences in morphology, and a more complex system of vowel harmony.[6]
and then goes on to claim:
> Xibe has 7 case morphemes, 3 of which are used quite differently from modern Manchu.

There is disputation on whether Xibe is a seperate language from Manchu or not. Some scholars confend that Xibe is a dialect of Manchu while others disagree. Obonggi (talk) 08:49, 13 August 2016 (UTC)Obonggi Beins

Contradictory info on vowels -- does the e in Manchu romanization correspond to a schwa or not?[edit]
In the vowels section on the language's phonology Manchu vowel inventory is seen as having a schwa but no [e] sound, implying that the e in Manchu Romanization corresponds to a schwa, but examples of Manchu words shown later are shown with the corresponding IPA value [e]. Mispelling(?)s of Accusative[edit]
in Manchu language#Pronouns , table 1 and 2 spell "accusative" as "Ackusative" and "Akkusative" respectively. I think these are mispellings, but i dont want to edit them if they are simply alternate forms of "Accusative". Hamncheese95 (talk) 21:54, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
